Job Description
Position Summary:
A leading chemical manufacturing organization is seeking a results-driven Sales Representative to join its team, specializing in chemical treatment products, with a focus on crop-input products sold into the agricultural market, including retail co-ops, distributors, and large farming operations. The ideal candidate will expand customer relationships, identify new market opportunities, and provide agronomic and product guidance that supports the company's commitment to delivering high-quality, performance-driven ag chemicals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sales and territory Management:
- Build, strengthen, and manage relationships with agricultural retailers, co-ops, distributors, and large growers.
- Maintain a deep understanding of regional crop markets, farming practices, and customer needs.
- Manage a defined sales territory across North Dakota or Montana with regular in-person visits.
- Product Expertise:
- Develop and maintain strong technical knowledge of surfactants, liquid and dry fertilizers, ammonia, and crop-input additives.
- Provide product recommendations, application guidance, and technical support to customers and retail partners.
- Business Development:
- Identify, pursue, and secure new sales opportunities within assigned territory.
- Represent the company at field days, grower meetings, trade shows, and agricultural industry events.
- Quoting & Order Processing:
- Prepare accurate pricing proposals and program quotes.
- Work closely with logistics, operations, and supply chain teams to ensure timely product delivery, especially during peak seasons.
- Market Monitoring:
- Monitor regional crop conditions, competitive activity, product trends, and grower demand.
- Provide regular feedback to management to support strategic planning and forecasting.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with internal teams including procurement, operations, regulatory, and technical services to ensure a consistent customer experience.
- Work with agronomists and field support specialists to coordinate demos, trials, and product testing.
- CRM and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate territory records, customer interactions, and sales activity in the CRM system.
- Report regularly on sales metrics, pipeline, market developments, and territory performance.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Business, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of B2B sales experience, preferably in the agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, or crop inputs.
- Experience with surfactants, adjuvants, fertilizers, or ammonia is a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with agricultural supply chains, seasonal demand cycles, and chemical handling regulations is a plus.
Skills:
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Applicator license or familiarity with pesticide regulations (state-specific) is beneficial.
- Knowledge of DOT, fertilizer handling, or ammonia safety certifications is a plus (e.g., HAZWOPER, OSHA, HAZMAT).
Working Conditions:
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday; extended hours during planting and harvest seasons may be required.
- Travel: Up to 50% within North Dakota or Montana for farm visits, retail meetings, and events.
- Environment: Combination of office work and frequent field visits to farms, ag-retail locations, and storage/handling sites.
