THRIVE Academy is a Therapeutic, Trauma-Informed alternative school serving students in grades K–12 from 27 partner districts across North Central Iowa. Our mission is to help students build Healthy Habits, Resilience, and Confidence through individualized, inclusive practices that address academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health needs.
The School Nurse plays a central role in supporting the whole child-integrating health services into our therapeutic model and helping remove barriers to learning.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Full-Time School Nurse to provide comprehensive health services in our K–12 setting. This role extends beyond episodic care to include preventative health programming, chronic condition management, compliance oversight, and collaboration with staff, families, and community partners.
At THRIVE, the nurse is a key member of the MTSS and behavioral support teams, helping ensure student health and wellness are integrated into daily instruction and intervention systems.
What You'll Do
- Manage chronic health conditions
- Develop and oversee Individual Health Plans (IHPs)
- Administer medications and physician-prescribed treatments
- Provide first aid, emergency response, and crisis health support
- Monitor medication compliance and collaborate with staff, families, and providers
- Track attendance-health correlations and support reintegration after hospitalization
- Coordinate immunization audits, screenings, and health compliance requirements
- Oversee IEP/504 medical documentation
- Serve on MTSS and behavioral support teams
- Provide preventative health education
- Train staff in emergency response, chronic condition management, and safety protocols
- Maintain accurate, confidential health records and ensure compliance with regulations
- Collaborate with families and community health providers to remove barriers to care

Certification Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Current Iowa RN Licensure
- PK–12 School Nurse Endorsement (or willingness to obtain)
