Position Title: Science Teacher (Physical Science and Earth Science)
The Jesuit science teacher is a collaborative member of the science department who brings out the best in students academically, strives to nurture and enhance student life, and witnesses authentically to the goals and ideals of Jesuit education. Physical Science is taught mostly to 8th grade students. Earth Science it taught a full year elective taught to seniors.
This salaried, exempt faculty position works as a 10-month employee reporting to the Principal. The start date for this position is August 1, 2026.

Jesuit High School is a non-profit, Catholic, college-preparatory school for boys in grades 8-12. It is located in Mid-City New Orleans on Carrollton Avenue between Palmyra and Banks Streets. The mission of Jesuit High School as a Catholic, college preparatory school is to develop in its students the competence, conscience, and compassion that will enable them to be men of faith and men for others.
Professional Responsibilities
- Models Catholic values and actively contributes to the formation of these values within the students
- Prepares and presents class material at the college preparatory level that correlates to the science departmental curriculum for Physical Science and Earth Science
- Prepares and administers assessments aligned to the established departmental standards
- Grades and posts all assignment grades weekly
- Is available before and/or after school should a student request extra academic assistance
- Maintains Canvas learning management platform for course information, including class policies, learning materials, assignments, and grades
- Maintains classroom discipline in a spirit of truth and fairness and applies policies equally to all students
- Regularly communicates to parents and counselors matters of concern
- Cooperates with the administration in professional development initiatives, performance evaluations, faculty meetings, and written communications
- Attends all departmental meetings and actively serves in studying departmental and school initiatives
- Continues personal study and growth in individual professional areas
- Contributes to student life by attending all assemblies, school Masses, and pep rallies, and participating in retreats, service opportunities, and student life events as available
- Moderates a homeroom and fulfills the duties of his/her daily proctoring assignment
Professional Requirements
- Appreciation and support for Catholic and Jesuit religious ethos
- High standards of personal integrity and character that is consistent with the discipline, norms, and teachings of the Catholic Church
- Bachelor's degree in science or related field of study
- Understanding of best practices related to teaching and learning with a commitment to excellence
- Strong interpersonal skills and desire to engage students and other members of the school community
- Collaborative and team-oriented spirit
- Availability for night or weekend events such as parent-teacher conferences, Open House, Baccalaureate Mass, commencement exercises, and other functions as determined by the administration
- High work ethic and commitment to timeliness in all school-related commitments
Salary and Benefits
Jesuit offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a benefits package including a 401k with employer contributions as well as employer-paid life and disability insurance. Offers may be rescinded upon unsuccessful completion of a pre-employment drug test or background investigation.
