Scientist / Senior Scientist: Bioconjugation & Protein Engineering
About the role:
A stealth mode biotech company is seeking a highly motivated Scientist / Senior Scientist to join our drug discovery team developing novel biologics. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading antibody conjugate design, synthesis, and evaluation through in vitro and in vivo studies. They will also work closely with the CMC team to support scale up. The position is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in the successful development of new drugs for patients within an early-stage therapeutics company backed by highly regarded investors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead efforts to engineer antibody properties including affinity for target and off-target epitopes, antibody structure, drug-like properties and payload conjugation sites
- Produce antibody conjugates using conjugation chemistry and purify conjugates using chromatography approaches at scales required for in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies
- Characterize antibody affinity for target epitopes and off-targets using a variety of techniques including SPR, ELISA, BLI and cell-based binding assays
- Develop and implement key antibody developability assays, including antigen polyreactivity, ADCC and complement engagement
- Work closely with external partners for method transfer and CMC development of antibody conjugation and purification at scales required for NHP studies and eventual first-in-human studies
- Maintain detailed laboratory records, perform data analysis and present findings in team meetings
- The person in this lab-based role will collaborate with scientists and operators in a fast-paced biotech startup environment
- Ensure compliance with all lab safety, quality and recordkeeping standards
Qualifications:
- PhD in related field with 2-5 years of industry experience preferred
- BS or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related field with 5+ years of relevant industry research experience will be considered
- Previous bioconjugation experience (e.g., ADC/AOC) required
- Expertise with analytical protein methods including CE-SDS, LC, LC-MS/MS, DSF, SEC-MALS, and DLS.
- Previous experience managing engagements with antibody/bioconjugate CRO/CDMO preferred

Location: Cambridge, MA
Salary range: $130,000 - $165,000 per year
