Job Description

About Voyager Therapeutics

Voyager Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: VYGR) is a biotechnology company dedicated to leveraging the power of human genetics to modify the course of - and ultimately cure - neurological diseases. Our pipeline includes programs for Alzheimer's disease, Friedreich's ataxia, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and multiple other diseases of the central nervous system. Many of our programs are derived from our TRACER AAV capsid discovery platform, which we have used to generate novel capsids and identify associated receptors to potentially enable high brain penetration with genetic medicines following intravenous dosing. Some of our programs are wholly owned, and some are advancing with partners including Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease; Novartis Pharma AG; and Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. For more information, visit http://www.voyagertherapeutics.com.

Voyager Therapeutics is a registered trademark, and TRACER is a trademark, of Voyager Therapeutics, Inc.

Job Summary:

Voyager Therapeutics is seeking a dedicated Scientist I, Protein Science, to join our growing Non-Viral Therapeutics Team. This role will be responsible for the purification, characterization, and delivery of high-quality proteins, including bispecific antibodies, antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates, and fusion proteins, to support the discovery and development of novel biotherapeutics. The ideal candidate should be fluent with protein purification methods including affinity, ion-exchange, and size exclusion-based chromatography, using computer interfaced systems. The candidate should be familiar with analytical methods for characterizing complex biotherapeutic molecules including SDS-PAGE, SEC-HPLC, light scattering, and thermal stability analysis. This role will require coordination and collaboration within the Protein Science and Bioconjugation group to generate both protein tool reagents and biotherapeutic candidates, and with Antibody Discovery and Engineering, and Biology teams to develop, optimize, and advance brain-penetrant biologics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize relevant chromatographic separation techniques (affinity, ion-exchange, size exclusion, HIC, multi-modal) to isolate desired homogenous protein
  • Execute workflows enabling high-throughput small scale protein purification for screening through gram scale production to support primate studies
  • Apply biophysical methods to assess size, monodispersity, thermal stability, and aggregation
  • Consistently deliver internally qualified high-quality protein for binding and functional assays, animal studies, and structure determination
  • Perform site-specific protein labeling and modification using enzymatic cleavage strategies (e.g., via proteases) and chemical conjugation approaches (e.g., NHS-reactive fluorophores and biotin)
  • Multiplex purifications to drive efficiency and shorter delivery times
  • Coordinate purification and characterization with requested timing of qualified protein delivery

Qualifications

  • PhD, MS, or BS in biochemistry, protein or cell engineering or related field, with 0-2 years or 7-8+ years respectively, of education and relevant industry experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience with protein purification and relevant chromatographic techniques
  • Familiarity with AKTA Pure and AKTA Avant chromatographic systems is desired
  • Direct hands-on experience with analytical characterization techniques (e.g. SDS-PAGE, SEC-HPLC, thermal stability, light scatter, differential scanning fluorimetry)
  • Experience with bispecific antibody purification is preferable
  • Self-motivated with an ability to multi-task multiple purifications, and scale purification to the requested amount of purified protein
  • Outstanding analytical, research and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

The anticipated salary range for candidates for this role will be $113,000 - 149,000. The final salary offered will depend on several factors, which may include, but is not limited to relevant years of experience, educational background, industry knowledge, technical skills and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
