ABOUT THE POSITION  

The Department ofSurgery and Specialty Medicineat the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM)isseekinga dynamic and experienced physician educator and leaderto serve as faculty in Psychiatry. Thispart-time(0.60 FTE)position offers the opportunity tochampionthe integration of mentalhealththroughoutthe medical education curriculum.Thispositionis opentocandidatesat therank ofAssistantProfessor,AssociateProfessor,or Full ProfessorAcademicrank tobedeterminedby TheChicago School andIllinoisCOM'sacademic rank policy.Thesuccessful clinician-educatorwill lead curriculum development across both pre-clinical and clinical phases,buildingthepre-clinicalBehavioral Sciences curriculum and directing thePsychiatry coreclerkship rotation.Additionalresponsibilitiesinclude faculty recruitment and development,establishingclinical partnerships, and fostering research initiatives and community engagement.Weseek a dedicated educator and innovative leader with deepexpertisein psychiatry andunderstanding of the interconnectedness of mental and physical health. The successful candidate will create a collaborative, student-focused environment that aligns withIllinoisCOM'smission to trainphysicians who deliver integrated, patient-centered care addressing both physical and mental health needs.

The University is building Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine, orIllinoisCOM,anticipatedto open for its first class of students in summer 2026 with a Mission to train exceptional physicians toleveragethe interconnection of physical and mental health to provide compassionate, patient-centered care of the highest quality. 

PRINCIPALDUTIES

Leadership & Administration

  • Provide visionary leadership forthe integration of mental health-centeredcurriculumwithintheIllinoisCOM

  • Lead curriculum development and assessment for thePsychiatryclinical rotation

  • Assistcurriculum development and assessment in preclinical courses as needed. 

  • Assistin recruitment, mentoring, and development offaculty members within the department

  • Maintainpartnerships with hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to support clinical training and research opportunities

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies

Teaching, Curriculum Development, & Student Success

  • Oversee the development and delivery of an innovative,holisticpsychiatriccurriculum

  • Teachmedical students using evidence-based instructional methods, including case-based and small-group learning

  • Support student coaching, mentoring, and professional development in clinical and academic settings

  • Collaborate with other faculty and clinical educators to integratemental health-centeringcontent across the curriculum

Service

  • Represent the College in professional organizations and events

  • Assistwhere needed with student recruitment and community outreach efforts

  • Participate in college and University committees

  • Support student and faculty participation in community outreach and service-learning programs

  • Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education

  • Engagein clinical practice(strongly encouraged)

Research & Scholarly Activity

  • Promote a culture of research and scholarship

  • Support faculty and student research

  • Seek external funding opportunities and partnerships to enhance research initiatives

  • Ensure ethical and regulatory compliance for research activities

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • DOor MDdegree with board certificationin related specialty

  • At least five (5) years of experience in medical education, residency training, or faculty leadership

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and student mentorship.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Commitment to collaborative, interprofessional education and the integration of osteopathic principles in training

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as a department chair, program director, or senior faculty leader in an accredited medical school or residency program

  • Strong background in educational innovation, simulation-based training, and competency-based assessment

  • Established record of research and scholarly activity inclinical practiceor medical education

  • Demonstrated commitment to health equity, diversity, and inclusion in clinical practice and medical education

  • Salary range:$105,000- $165,000,commensuratewith experience and academic rank

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $105,000 - 165,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
