Job Description
Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving law enforcement duties at a state agency, institution or facility. This will include conducting patrols in an assigned area or location to enforce laws and rules and provide protection for individuals and property within the assigned area of responsibility.
Compensation: $38072.00
Typical Functions
Patrols an assigned area or location to eliminate hazards, vandalism or other criminal activity; provides protection for individuals and property within the area of responsibility; may carry firearms and be required to use force to enforce security, apprehend suspects, or protect lives.
Directs traffic in an assigned area and controls traffic entering and leaving parking areas; enforces parking and traffic laws and regulations; issues citations or makes arrests as appropriate.
Directs police, fire and other emergency vehicles; provides assistance to authorities in the handling or investigation of traffic accidents, fires, vandalism, and other emergency situations and incidents.
Greets visitors; answers inquiries; receives and relays messages concerning both business and personal matters.
Provides supervision or direction to an assigned staff; prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
Plans and directs law enforcement programs; coordinates law enforcement activities within assigned areas of responsibility.
Level Descriptor
This is the leadership level where employees are assigned responsibilities involving the supervision of others in performing police and security work. This will include scheduling employees for duty, making visits to assigned posts to review operations, developing and conducting training, and otherwise planning and controlling the operations of an assigned unit or shift.
Education and Experience
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of two years and six months of experience in security or law enforcement work or direct care of juveniles in a secure residential facility.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of routine police and security practices; of state and federal laws related to public safety and criminal conduct; of traffic control; of methods and techniques used in conducting investigations; of emergency response procedures; of first aid techniques; and of supervisory principles and practices. Ability is required to follow oral and written instructions; to give clear and concise directions; to make oral and written reports; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to effectively evaluate emergency situations; to react quickly and effectively in emergency situations; to perform advanced level police and security work; and to supervise the work of others.
Special Requirements
Some agencies may require one or more of the following: @@ Must be willing and able to complete all job-related travel normally associated with the position. @@ Must complete the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training course within twelve months of employment or have previously completed this training. @@ Must successfully complete a National Agency check for the purpose of gaining access to restricted areas and/or obtaining a security clearance. @@ Must maintain a physical fitness standard that will allow them to perform the duties of the position. @@ Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver License at the time of employment.#### Positions within the Office of Juvenile Affairs will require the following: @@ Applicants must be willing and able to work overtime and to work on shifts. @@ Employees are required to stand and walk for prolonged periods and to have the ability to physically restrain residents using approved restraint techniques. @@ Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds. @@ Employees must pass all training requirements for sole supervision of residents, i.e., first aid certification, CPR and restraint training.#### Some positions may require education or experience in a specified field of law enforcement.Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.
