We are seeking an operational, guest-focused Security Shift Supervisor to manage evening shift operations for a iconic 400,000+ sq. ft. museum and educational campus on Chicago's lakefront. Reporting directly to the Security Director, this role leads on-duty security officers, oversees evening visitor operations, closing procedures, and event safety, and maintains high security and customer service standards across a high-profile public institution.

Schedule as follows:  Thursday-Monday 4pm-12am

Key Responsibilities

Shift Leadership & Staff Development

  • Lead, direct, and motivate evening-shift security officers to ensure adherence to company policies, post orders, and safety guidelines.

  • Conduct daily shift briefings (roll calls), assign patrol routes across exhibit halls and campus grounds, verify attendance, and adjust shift coverage as needed.

  • Deliver site-specific "on-the-job" and annual refresher training on emergency protocols, technology systems, and customer service standards.

  • Perform random site checks to ensure officers are actively patrolling, wearing proper uniforms, and fully equipped.

  • Foster a respectful work environment through performance management, coaching, and staff recognition.

Closing Operations, Access Control & Asset Protection

  • Oversee daily public closing routines, exhibit sweeps, and secure lockdown procedures across the main facility and parking structures.

  • Maintain access control and visitor management procedures established by museum management.

  • Effectively utilize access control software, visitor/vendor logs, and CCTV monitoring systems during peak evening hours and after-hours events.

  • Monitor departing staff, contractors, and event guests to guard against theft or damage to property and exhibits.

Patrols, Incident Response & Special Events

  • Manage security coverage for evening private functions, special exhibit viewings, and after-hours public programs.

  • Conduct general foot patrols across interior galleries, multi-story stairwells, and outdoor campus grounds in all weather conditions.

  • Serve as an initial point of response for property emergencies, medical calls, escalated security events, and safety hazards.

  • Accurately record and log data regarding incidents, property/exhibit damage, equipment issues, and visitor/package tracking for leadership.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting museum guests, staff, and event partners with helpful, professional communication.

Qualifications

  • Age & Education: Must be at least 21 years of age with a High School diploma or GED.

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of prior satisfactory employment as a security officer or in a directly related role. Cultural institution, venue, or high-traffic public space experience strongly preferred.

  • Licensing & Screenings: Valid Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) (and valid driver's license if applicable); must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

  • Skills: Excellent English written and verbal communication skills (bilingual is a plus); proficient in access control technology, visitor software, and CCTV operations.

  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods; perform indoor/outdoor foot patrols in varying weather conditions; climb flights of stairs; and lift, push, or pull at least 50 lbs.

Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Competitive Pay: $24.00 per hour

  • On-Site Parking Perks: Enjoy free, secure indoor parking right at the facility-saving you time and hassle every shift.

  • Generous Paid Time Off: Build a strong work-life balance with accrued paid time off (PTO) and paid holiday coverage.

  • Comprehensive Healthcare Coverage: Protect yourself and your family with comprehensive, high-quality Medical and Dental insurance plans.

  • Professional Development & Training: Access regular, skills-enhancing training programs designed to expand your industry expertise, life-safety knowledge, and leadership capabilities.

  • Career Advancement Opportunities: We prioritize promoting from within, offering clear pathways for professional growth, leadership development, and promotion into higher management roles.
