JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Semi-Driver

Immediate Supervisor: Senior Transportation Manager 

Employees Supervised: None

FLSA: Non-exempt

General Description/Position Summary

Primary responsibility is the pick-up and delivery of all Foodbank products, general maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of facilities and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibly drive Foodbank vehicles to make product pickups and deliveries to agencies and/or affiliate food banks.
  • Maintain accurate records by completing all required procedures and forms to ensure the smooth operation of the Foodbank.
  • Ensure accuracy of both general warehouse and freezer delivery orders by reading invoices and confirming counts prior to making delivery.
  • Assist in inventory reconciliation. Assist in various duties pertaining to maintaining accurate inventory.
  • Assist in monthly distribution preparation, tracking and reconciliation.
  • Assist in the distribution process to meet customer needs.
  • Inspect all product upon pick up, paying close attention to the temperature of freezer and refrigerated items, and determine fitness of product for distribution.
  • Conduct daily check on transportation equipment to ensure it is clean, safe and highway-ready.
  • Follow safe workplace practices
  • Follow policies and procedures related to food safety and equipment safety
  • Take an active role in reinforcing safe work practices
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and driving experience.
  • Meet and adhere to required Class A Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Skilled in the operation of standard warehouse equipment.
  • Proficient in basic math.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, ability to handle interruptions, and maintain focus on tasks producing accurate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling and usage.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check, annual MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) review and driving skills assessment.
  • Maintain a Class A Driver License.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain all DOT regulations including but not necessarily limited to:
    • Drug
    • Alcohol
    • Driving Skills

Working Conditions

Work is performed in various locations with a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be very hot, and during the winter very cold. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature. Workspace could be very dusty, and on occasions can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the building. Work involves being outside and exposure to the elements. Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product. Work involves moving boxes and employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.

Special events and other projects related to this position may require evening and / or weekend work.
