Senior Accountant (Interim / Long-Term Contract – 12+ Months)

ARC Group is seeking a Senior Accountant for a leading client in the Oil & Gas industry. This is a long-term interim engagement (minimum 12 months) supporting the Fuels Distribution business during a critical system transition and integration phase.

The role is highly hands-on and focused on general ledger accounting, inventory control, and process integrity as the organization migrates from Ascend to Vertrax, integrated into Oracle.

The ideal candidate will bring strong operational accounting experience combined with exposure to ERP implementations or system integrations. This position plays a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, data consistency, and control throughout a complex systems transformation.

Accounts payable and accounts receivable are outsourced, allowing the focus to remain on GL integrity, inventory accounting, accrual management, and intercompany reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the monthly close process in accordance with the fuels business closing calendar.
• Prepare and post recurring and ad hoc journal entries, including inventory accruals, intercompany transactions, deferred costs (e.g., drydock), leases, and prepaid amortizations.
• Perform detailed general ledger reconciliations across inventory, accruals, clearing accounts, prepaids, and bank accounts.
• Validate data interfaces between Ascend and Vertrax into Oracle, ensuring accurate mapping, identifying discrepancies, and resolving suspense postings.
• Partner with operations, IT, and finance teams to support system migration activities including testing, reconciliation, documentation, and go-live support.
• Verify terminal and vessel fuel inventory quantities, valuations, and cost allocations.
• Manage purchase order accruals and reversals to ensure proper cutoff and accurate cost recognition.
• Prepare and review intercompany transactions to ensure completeness and accuracy across entities.
• Support fuel excise tax reporting and filings (Form 720 ), ensuring accurate data aggregation and compliance.
• Produce monthly terminal-level and cost center reporting for finance and operational stakeholders.
• Identify and implement process improvements related to close efficiency, system mapping, and reporting workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience; fuel distribution, logistics, marine operations, or energy industry experience strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting ERP implementations or system integrations (Ascend → Vertrax and Oracle highly preferred).
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, inventory accounting, and fuel excise tax compliance (Form 720 preferred).
• Proven ability to reconcile complex data sets and troubleshoot system interface and mapping issues.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced close environment.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with operations, IT, and finance teams.
