Job Description
Senior Analyst/Manager, Tax- Real Estate
Responsibilities
Ensure timely filing of U.S. federal income tax returns (REIT, corporate, partnership) and various state/local income/franchise tax returns for private funds; including interaction with external advisors to co-ordinate collection of information and review deliverables such as workpapers, investor tax reporting packages and tax returns prepared by external advisors
Manage Schedules K-1 and K-3, Forms 1099, 1042-S and 8805 tax reporting process for private funds' investors
Address tax related questions from private funds' investors appropriately
Work with external advisors in gathering information quarterly and annually for REIT testing, including review of the external advisors' work
Maintain investment closing binders in connection with acquisitions and dispositions
Support internal transaction tax team and investments teams with various asset management, acquisition, and disposition related ad-hoc tasks
Manage U.S. tax withholding on cash distributions to private funds' investors
Manage U.S. tax provision process
Ensure appropriate transfer pricing documentation is in place and updated periodically
Oversee tax form (Form W-8/W-9) validation process for new investors and existing investors with expiring forms
Oversee any federal and state tax audits of U.S. entities, including handling of notices received from taxing authorities
Oversee tax functions and operations of certain portfolio company operations
Prepare ad-hoc tax analyses in relation to acquisitions, dispositions, and restructuring
Research technical tax and accounting issues and disclosure matters
Keep informed of changing laws and regulations to apply to Brookfield policies and practices
Identify, develop, and direct the implementation of technology tools and process improvements to reduce process inefficiencies (e.g., data collection time and efforts, repetitive tasks, etc.) and increase effectiveness of tax analyses and tax risk management
Requirements
Qualified CPA with 5+ years of real estate tax experience
Experience at a Big 4 public accounting firm
Experience in private/industry is highly preferred
Experience in managing large tax compliance processes and assignments
Technical knowledge of U.S. real estate, REIT, corporate tax, and partnership tax rules
Technical knowledge of U.S. withholding tax on non-U.S. investors and application of tax forms
Knowledge of outbound tax compliance and experience with international tax research
Knowledge of real estate industry and real estate investment
Basic understanding of cross-border tax issues and U.S. tax treaty analysis
Ability to multi-task and work in a very fast-paced and team-oriented environment
Excellent project management skills and ability to apply a pragmatic and efficient approach to handling complex assignments
Strong verbal and written communication skills, and
Strong attention to detail
Note: Title will be determined based on the candidates' experience level.
Base: $115,000 - $140,000

Our compensation structure is comprised of a base salary and a short-term incentive program (cash bonus). Cash compensation tends to vary based on geography to account for local market conditions and is set to be market competitive. Compensation decisions are based on a number of factors including relative experience, overall years of experience, industry experience, education and designations.
