Job Description
Our client, a IT Services and Consulting company, is looking for a Senior Azure Data & Insurance Technology Specialist for their Lake Forest, IL/Hybrid location.Responsibilities:
- Serve as a senior technology specialist delivering scalable insurance product solutions on Azure. The role combines Azure Functions, Azure Data Services, Databricks, and Databricks SQL to modernize data and analytics platforms. You will collaborate in a hybrid model with cross-functional teams to design, build, and optimize secure, high-performance solutions that improve customer outcomes and operational efficiency for global insurance stakeholders.
- Design and implement end-to-end technology solutions for insurance products leveraging Azure Functions and Azure Data Services for scalable and maintainable platforms supporting policy and claims processes.
- Develop and optimize data engineering workflows on Azure Databricks to transform raw insurance data into curated datasets for pricing, underwriting, and regulatory reporting.
- Build high-performance Databricks SQL queries and reusable data models to enable self-service analytics, dashboards, and advanced insights.
- Translate business requirements into technical designs in collaboration with product owners, business analysts, and domain experts.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for Azure Functions and Databricks pipelines to ensure reliability and rapid incident resolution.
- Apply secure coding and data protection standards to safeguard sensitive insurance and financial data.
- Perform continuous performance tuning of data pipelines, clusters, and SQL workloads to optimize cost and efficiency.
- Collaborate with QA teams to define test strategies and ensure data validation and reliable deployments.
- Document solution designs, data flows, and operational procedures for maintainability and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure seamless integration with enterprise systems, identity platforms, and shared data ecosystems.
- Provide technical guidance on Databricks optimization, cluster configurations, and best practices.
- Identify technical debt and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Engage stakeholders regularly in hybrid work settings to align on progress and gather feedback.
- 10–12 years of experience in technology roles with strong focus on data engineering, cloud platforms, and insurance systems.
- Strong expertise in Azure Functions and Azure Data Services
- Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks (cluster management, notebooks, job orchestration)
- Advanced proficiency in Databricks SQL (query optimization, data modeling)
- Strong understanding of data warehousing, data lakes, and cloud data governance
- Experience delivering enterprise-scale Azure solutions with performance and cost optimization
- Deep domain knowledge in insurance (policy administration, billing, claims)
- Experience with event-driven architecture and microservices on Azure
- Knowledge of advanced analytics, actuarial data models, or regulatory reporting
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for data platforms
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
