Job Description
Position Summary:
The Senior Civil Engineer leads and delivers civil design and site development projects for building and infrastructure projects within the Architectural/Engineering/Consulting (AEC) environment. This role is responsible for directing land development and site improvement efforts, including site feasibility analysis, grading, drainage, utility design, and site layout, while providing technical oversight throughout all phases of project execution in collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams.
Job Duties:
-Act as the Lead Site Engineer on assigned projects, providing technical leadership and oversight throughout all phases of site development.-Lead and manage all site design phases, including initial site analysis, master planning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and preparation of construction documents.-Perform and direct all aspects of site design, including site layout and geometry, pedestrian and vehicular circulation, grading, athletic and sports field, track and court design, site utilities, paving, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control.-Coordinate the overall development of site projects, including preparation and management of construction cost estimates, schedules, and project budgets.-Prepare and review project drawings, technical specifications, engineering calculations, and design reports in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.-Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure coordinated, integrated, and constructible site designs.-Visit job sites to conduct construction observations; prepare existing site condition surveys, deficiency reports, and punch lists; and support construction administration activities.-Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, government agencies, construction administrators, and contractors, including managing correspondence, permitting coordination, and technical responses.-Oversee, mentor, and provide technical guidance to assigned Site/Civil team members to ensure quality, efficiency, and professional development.-Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.-Execute work in accordance with internal quality procedures, applicable codes, legislation, and industry standards to ensure project compliance and technical excellence.-Actively pursue continuous learning opportunities to maintain a high degree of technical knowledge and professional competency in structural engineering.-Promote and maintain a culture of safety by working in a safe manner at all times and promptly reporting all health and safety incidents or concerns.-Perform additional tasks as required to support project goals, team objectives, and company initiatives.
Requirements:
-Professional Engineering license (NY State preferred) with 10+ years of related design experience.-Project experience in Athletic / Recreational Fields and Courts for Parks and Recreation, K-12 schools, and Higher Education clients.-Experience in designing synthetic and natural turf sports fields and running tracks.-Strong knowledge and experience creating SWPPP documents and understanding of NYSDEC storm water regulations.-Experience in leading and managing projects and the ability to successfully interact with clients.-Possess strong communication skills.-Proficiency in Revit, and good knowledge of industry software, including Microsoft Office Suite.-Active and clear driver"s license, including a successful clearance of a Motor Vehicle history check.
Physical Requirements:
-Ability to travel to and from project sites, client meetings, and other offices as required.-Capacity to use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, vests, and steel-toed boots when required.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:-The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere.-Work involves extensive use of computers, digital communication tools, and design software in an open or hybrid office environment.-This role requires frequent interaction with project teams, clients, consultants, and other stakeholders through in-person meetings, video conferences, and phone calls.-Periodic travel to construction sites, client offices, and off-site meetings is required.-Work at project sites may involve exposure to active construction environments, including noise, dust, varying temperatures, and weather conditions.-The position requires adaptability to shifting project priorities, client expectations, and multidisciplinary coordination.-Work may occasionally involve tight deadlines, multiple concurrent projects, and high attention to detail under time-sensitive conditions.-Collaboration across multiple time zones or with remote team members may be necessary, depending on project scope and firm structure.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, regular position, with typically standard working hours between 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday. However, this position may require occasional extended hours to meet project milestones, deadlines, or client needs.This position is considered hybrid, with a 40% office presence, 30% site visits and/or client meetings, and 30% remote presence (ability to work from a home location). This arrangement is subject to review and may change based on project need or at the company"s discretion.
