This role focuses on finding cost-saving opportunities, reducing product variation, and improving how medical supplies are used, all while maintaining or improving patient care quality. The specialist collaborates with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative leaders to standardize products, streamline processes, and manage supply costs effectively.A main responsibility of the position is leading product evaluations and facilitating meetings where supply decisions are made. The Senior Specialist also ensures that everyone involved understands and follows the organization's guidelines for selecting new products or changing existing ones. By using data and industry best practices, this role helps the organization make informed, cost-effective decisions about medical supplies.The Senior Value Based Management Specialist plays a critical part in ensuring that the supply chain supports both financial goals and patient care standards, contributing to a more efficient and effective healthcare system. Employees may perform other duties as assigned and must adhere to all regulatory requirements and organizational standards, including compliance with Joint Commission requirements, patient safety protocols, and cultural diversity sensitivity.Lead the enterprise-wide refresh of the value based management (VBM) program objectives, including policies and procedures around the selection of medical products, services and technologies.
  • Facilitate subcommittee meetings with strong stakeholder engagement, preparing agendas, coordinating data collection, developing presentations, tracking key performance indicators, and managing follow-up actions.
  • Own and facilitate the intake process for new product introductions and conversions.
  • Evaluate supply variation for clinical justifications, making recommendations for standardization where applicable.
  • Lead strategic product conversations with physicians and clinical staff to standardize practices and shift vendor market share.
  • Oversee evidence-based product evaluation processes, including cost-savings initiatives and guidance for product evaluation teams.
  • Train Value Based Management committee members to analyze and review data effectively during product evaluations.
  • Develop and deliver educational materials for end-users on new product request tools and processes.
  • Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and organizational policies related to value-based management activities.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risk areas, supporting problem resolution processes as needed.
  • Prepare and present detailed findings and recommendations to senior management, promoting a culture of evidence-based decision-making.
  • Lead cost-saving projects by collaborating with sourcing teams, clinicians, and data managers to foster continuous improvement and accountability. Keep current on technology, regulatory and operational trends within health care and academic medical centers that may impact product/service utilization or Value Based Management processes.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders from Supply Chain and Clinical departments to implement products approved by Value Based Management committees and ensure stocking of necessary inventory
Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, finance, nursing or a relevant field.
Experience Qualifications
  • * Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • * Demonstrated expertise in Value Based Management initiatives, healthcare supply chain operations, and industry best practices.
  • * Familiarity with electronic medical record systems (e.g., Epic, Lawson) and materials management information systems (MMIS).
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and foster a collaborative working environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a customer service mindset and consistent follow-up on issues.
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex projects, managing multiple priorities, and achieving results.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to inspire confidence, defuse tension, and act as a change agent.
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting to drive decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Effective problem-solving abilities and an understanding of strategic decision-making processes in healthcare and supply chain environments.
  • Skilled in training and mentoring team members, ensuring they are equipped to handle new product evaluation processes and tools.
Licenses and Certifications
  • CMRP - Certified Materials & Resource Professional . or
  • Certified Value Based Management Healthcare Professional (CVAHP) preferred .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $52.69 - $69.82 per hour
