Job Description

The Senior Communications Strategy Specialist leads communication, education and marketing initiatives through a structured process that includes discovery, strategy, communication planning, and assessment. This role partners with internal stakeholders to understand goals, audiences, and challenges; identifies communication needs, risks and opportunities; and develops strategies aligned with institutional priorities.The senior specialist translates strategy into action by managing communication plans, timelines, deliverables, approvals, resources, and project logistics. Throughout each project, this role maintains strong partner communication, anticipates needs, resolves challenges, and supports assessment to evaluate outcomes and strengthen future communication efforts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute communication needs and plans for stakeholder teams and leadership.
  • Develop comprehensive communication strategies for major departmental and organizational initiatives.
  • Leverage a creative and compelling array of communications including presentations, email, newsletters, announcements, information sheets, application brochures, articles and videos.
  • Recommend methods of communication to ensure all relevant information is appropriately conveyed to identified populations.
  • Serve as a communication expert for the key stakeholder departments and other areas of the institution, offering guidance on style, branding, visual layout, wording and methods of communication.
  • Work with external vendors to support projects and monitor progress to ensure the institution's needs are supported.
  • Evaluate new media to produce innovative, effective internal campaigns.
  • Keep track of the project activities and ensure alignment with the quality guidelines project timelines and objectives.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and mentoring support to less experienced colleagues on routine processes and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or related field required.
  • Master's degree OR PhD preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: 4+ years of experience in communications, journalism, English or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in business communications, journalism, PR, and communications in life sciences or healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency in software programs such as Captivate, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other tools used to create communication materials.
  • Stakeholder management experience preferred, ideally within clinical or information services environments.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $70,720 - $126,880 per year for the role of Senior Communications Strategy Specialist.
