Job Description

Senior DevOps Engineer

Overview

Client is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to support and enhance cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes platforms, and deployment automation in a remote-friendly environment. This hands-on role focuses on designing, operating, and optimizing scalable, secure, and reliable AWS-based infrastructure while improving operational efficiency and platform consistency.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, and observability tooling, along with the ability to independently drive technical decisions in complex environments. This role also requires practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate analysis, troubleshooting, documentation, and delivery while maintaining high standards for security, correctness, and operational excellence.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate AWS cloud infrastructure and automation using Terraform across services including EC2, S3, EKS, ECR, Route 53, IAM, and networking components.

• Manage Kubernetes and EKS platforms, including cluster lifecycle management, upgrades, autoscaling, workload scheduling, capacity planning, performance optimization, and cost management.

• Build and enhance Kubernetes platform capabilities such as networking, ingress, DNS integration, service discovery, RBAC, policy enforcement, secrets management, and multi-environment consistency.

• Develop and maintain CI/CD and GitOps deployment workflows using GitLab CI/CD, Helm, Kustomize, Argo CD, Flux, and related technologies.

• Implement and improve observability solutions, including metrics, logging, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and incident diagnostics.

• Support and optimize Kubernetes-based application workloads to improve resilience, scalability, runtime efficiency, and operational performance.

• Strengthen infrastructure and platform security through IAM least-privilege access, secrets management, image scanning, admission controls, policy-as-code, workload isolation, and runtime hardening.

• Support PostgreSQL/RDS reliability, availability, backup integrity, performance tuning, and operational support activities.

• Collaborate with development and platform teams to improve deployment strategies, developer experience, runtime reliability, and operational standards.

• Monitor system health, troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative improvements.

• Drive technical decision-making, evaluate tradeoffs, prioritize work, and deliver solutions with limited oversight.

• Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate infrastructure design, Terraform development, Kubernetes troubleshooting, CI/CD workflow creation, observability analysis, and operational documentation while validating outputs for security and production readiness.

• Document and refine infrastructure standards, DevOps practices, deployment workflows, operational procedures, and support runbooks.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies

• Minimum 7 years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or related disciplines, with demonstrated success designing and operating scalable cloud infrastructure.

• Strong expertise with AWS services including EC2, S3, EKS, ECR, Route 53, IAM, and cloud networking and security concepts.

• Advanced hands-on Kubernetes experience, including cluster operations, upgrades, autoscaling, networking, ingress, RBAC, policy enforcement, and production workload management.

• Strong experience using Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, environment management, and repeatable platform provisioning.

• Experience with Kubernetes deployment and packaging tools such as Helm and Kustomize.

• Experience with GitLab CI/CD and GitOps methodologies using tools such as Argo CD, Flux, or similar technologies.

• Strong experience with observability and monitoring platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or comparable solutions.

• Experience with Kubernetes ecosystem tools such as ingress controllers, operators, Cluster Autoscaler, and Karpenter.

• Strong experience supporting PostgreSQL/RDS environments, including performance tuning, reliability, and operational support.

• Solid understanding of cloud and container security practices, including IAM least privilege, secrets management, image scanning, admission controls, and policy enforcement.

• Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or similar languages.

• Practical fluency with AI-assisted engineering tools, including LLMs, code assistants, and workflow automation solutions, with the ability to evaluate and refine generated outputs responsibly.

• Excellent problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.

• Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in ambiguous environments.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Skills or Experience

• Certifications in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, or related platform technologies.

• Experience with additional cloud platforms such as GCP or Azure.

• Experience improving incident response processes, operational readiness, and platform standards for distributed engineering organizations.

• Experience designing internal platform capabilities that enhance developer self-service and reduce operational overhead.

• Familiarity with compliance, governance, and risk management requirements within enterprise or regulated environments.

Work Details

• Remote. Candidates may reside anywhere within the United States.

• Must be available to work 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time.

• Contract duration is 3 months with possible extension based on business needs.

• Interview process consists of a Microsoft Teams interview with the hiring manager and additional team members.
