Overview:
The Senior Director, Pathology will provide scientific leadership for the interpretation and application of clinical pathology data across Alnylam's research and development portfolio. This individual will serve as a key subject matter expert, partnering with cross-functional teams to evaluate nonclinical study results, support regulatory submissions, guide biomarker and translational strategies, and inform program decisions from discovery through early development. The role requires deep expertise in clinical pathology, strong scientific communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders while mentoring team members and advancing innovative therapeutics in a fast-paced biotechnology environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical pathology assessment of preclinical results for platform and program support
- Review non-GLP and GLP study clinical pathology data
- Clearly interpret and report findings and position significance to program teams and broader audiences through descriptions, data tables, and scientific presentations
- Contribute clinical pathology reports and/or reviews for regulatory filings
- Consult with other internal and external stakeholders on preclinical study design and interpretation
- Actively participate in program and platform meetings
- Mentor the clinical pathology scientist and collaborate with all pathology team members to assure optimal support of data generation and analysis in nonclinical studies
- Share biomarker and translational expertise across Research and Early Development
- Participate in group, department and company meetings and activities
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience as a pathologist in biotech, pharma or at a CRO
- Veterinary degree and ACVP/ECVP board certification in clinical pathology; PhD preferred but not required in lieu of relevant pathology experience
- Demonstrated scientific curiosity/aptitude through a scientific publication and/or presentation record
- Strong interest in areas of Alnylam research emphasis; demonstrated experience preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Ability/interest to travel for essential company activities
