Job Description:

Abiomed is recruiting for a Senior Director, Global Cost, Service & Repair leader located in Danvers, MA.

The Global Cost, Service & Repair leader (Senior Director) is responsible for end-to-end service and repair supply chain strategy and execution across a global, multi-site network. This leader drives availability, speed, cost, and quality of repaired/refurbished medical devices through integrated planning, service supply, repair operations enablement, logistics, inventory management, and supplier performance. The role partners closely with Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Commercial teams to ensure compliance and customer experience while delivering measurable improvements in service levels and gross margin/margin rate.

In addition, the leader will identify and implement capabilities (systems, analytics, network design, and standard work) that provide competitive advantage and scalable growth. This leader is accountable for Service & Repair supply chain performance in the Danvers, Aachen, DE, and Japan locations. This role focuses on Abiomed's global cost improvement focused on driving Abiomed Gross Margin Improvements. The leader will build their team to work with Abiomed Finance, Ops, and Quality to drive overall product and process improvements that will deliver meaningful cost savings targeted at driving gross margin improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the global Service & Repair supply chain strategy and operating model across planning, sourcing, inventory, logistics, and repair network enablement.
  • Lead and develop a world-class service supply chain organization through talent acquisition, coaching, and succession planning to support forecasted growth.
  • Drive service materials planning and inventory optimization (multi-echelon where applicable) to ensure device/part availability while reducing working capital and obsolescence.
  • Establish and manage global transportation and reverse logistics strategies to improve cycle time, reliability, and total delivered cost across regions.
  • Own S&OP / IBP inputs for service & repair demand, capacity, and materials, aligning repair site throughput, supplier capacity, and customer commitments.
  • Lead supplier strategy for service parts and repair consumables (qualification, performance management, cost, and continuity) and drive dual sourcing and risk mitigation.
  • Partner with Quality/Regulatory to ensure service and repair processes, suppliers, and logistics flows comply with applicable requirements (e.g., FDA QSR, ISO 13485) and are inspection ready.
  • Define and deliver the service & repair cost and productivity roadmap (labor, freight, material, scrap, rework, expedite, and overhead) to improve gross margin and margin rate.
  • Establish KPIs, dashboards, and operating rhythms to manage service supply chain performance (OTD, turnaround time, fill rate, inventory turns, cost to serve, and supplier performance).
  • Own service & repair margin performance in partnership with Finance, including forecasting, drivers analysis, and execution of margin improvement initiatives.
  • Lead cross-functional programs to standardize processes, deploy enabling technology (ERP/MRP, WMS, TMS), and improve data quality and analytics for decision-making.
  • Working with Global Development Engineering, Operations and Finance develop long term margin Improvement Road map and strategy
  • The team will implement and execute key margin improvement programs to drive savings
  • Work with Product management and Development engineering to ensure new products have a margin accretive approach
  • Communicate service supply chain performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership; escalate issues and recommend tradeoffs to protect customer commitments and margin.
  • Ensure personal and team compliance with all Federal, State, local, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures, including Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Business, or a related discipline is required; MS/MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in supply chain/operations in a regulated manufacturing and/or service environment (medical device preferred), including multi-site and global operations is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years leading and managing supply chain and/or operations teams at the site, regional, or corporate level, with demonstrated influence in matrixed environments is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in service and repair supply chains, including demand planning, inventory optimization, supplier management, and distribution/reverse logistics.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including experience managing budgets and driving gross margin improvement through cost reduction and cost-to-serve optimization.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and work effectively with Quality/Regulatory, Operations, Engineering, and Commercial stakeholders in a global, matrixed environment.
  • Experience with supply chain systems and analytics (ERP/MRP, WMS/TMS, planning tools).
  • Working knowledge of regulated environments and the ability to support inspection readiness and compliance expectations for service and repair operations.
  • Ability to quickly grasp technology, medical applications, and applicable regulations/standards
  • Ability to positively influence groups across an organization to embrace a common philosophy in collaboration with various department system owners
  • Strong ethics to escalate issues in the face of competing priorities
  • Proven record of ability to train and develop staff
  • Travel approximately 30% domestic/international
  • Black belt or lean certified is preferred

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation- 120 hours per calendar year

Sick time- 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado- 48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington- 56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays- 13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave- 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
