Position Overview
TCOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer with deep expertise in power systems to support the design, production, and testing of electrical and electronic systems for lighter-than-air (LTA) vehicles and associated ground support equipment. This role is responsible for electrical design ownership across the full product lifecycle—from concept development through fabrication, integration, and test—ensuring all designs meet performance, safety, and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong analytical skills, practical design experience, and the ability to lead technical efforts while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Experience in the aviation or aerospace industry is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support electrical and electronic systems for LTA platforms and ground support facilities.
- Lead electrical design efforts across multiple functional areas, including:
- Instrumentation and control systems
- Electrical power generation and distribution
- Communications systems
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Provide technical leadership in electrical power system design, including:
- Transformer design and specification
- Power system modeling, analysis, and optimization
- Electrical load characterization, capacity planning, and load factor analysis
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics and drawings using schematic capture tools.
- Generate production-ready engineering documentation to support manufacturing and assembly.
- Support system integration, troubleshooting, and verification testing, including first-article builds in a production environment.
- Plan, conduct, and present electrical design reviews to demonstrate compliance with customer, program, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams throughout the development lifecycle.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Travel occasionally to TCOM’s manufacturing facility in North Carolina to support production and test activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- Minimum of 10 years of electrical design experience involving electrical and electronic assemblies.
- Aviation or aerospace industry experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in electrical power system design, analysis, and optimization.
- Experience producing production-level engineering documentation for manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience supporting system integration and testing, including first-article builds.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, senior leadership, and technical teams.
- Proven ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Active U.S. Secret Clearance preferred but not required.
In compliance with state and local laws, the salary range for this role is $130,000 - $170,000. The range provided is a general guideline and good faith estimate representative of all experience levels but is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. TCOM considers several factors when extending an offer including, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate’s experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
