Position Overview
TCOM is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support the design, production, testing, and field support of electrical and electronic systems for lighter-than-air (LTA) vehicles and associated ground support equipment. This role supports programs from initial concept through fabrication, integration, and test, ensuring designs meet performance, quality, and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical fundamentals, hands-on design experience, and the ability to work independently as well as within multidisciplinary engineering teams. Prior experience in the aviation or aerospace industry is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical and electronic systems for LTA vehicles and ground support facilities.
- Perform electrical design activities across multiple disciplines, including:
- Instrumentation and control systems
- Power distribution systems
- Communications systems
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics and related design documentation using schematic capture tools.
- Produce production-ready engineering documentation suitable for manufacturing and assembly.
- Support integration, troubleshooting, and testing activities, including first-article builds in a manufacturing environment.
- Participate in and lead electrical design reviews, ensuring designs meet customer, regulatory, and program requirements.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and test phases.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and program teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance as needed.
- Travel occasionally to TCOM’s manufacturing facility in North Carolina to support production and testing activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- Minimum of 8 years of electrical design experience, including work with electrical and electronic assemblies.
- Aviation or aerospace industry experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience creating production-level engineering documentation for manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience supporting system integration and testing, including first-article builds.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, senior management, and technical teams.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to manage tasks independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Active U.S. Secret Clearance preferred but not required.
In compliance with state and local laws, the salary range for this role is $110,000 - $160,000. The range provided is a general guideline and good faith estimate representative of all experience levels but is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. TCOM considers several factors when extending an offer including, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate’s experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
