Job Description

Job Description

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of our power and motion control systems for our robotic systems. This role is an opportunity to lead the long-term architecture of Fauna’s robotics platform and help build the technical foundation for robots and humans working together.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, layout, and validation of PCBs for power distribution, motor drivers, embedded systems, and sensor integration.

  • Architect and optimize power distribution and battery system to support a humanoid robot with high-performance actuators and real-time compute workloads.

  • Develop and refine our lithium-ion battery system, including charging circuits, safety protections, and state-of-charge (SOC) algorithms.

  • Develop high-efficiency system power architecture and power monitoring circuitry to support our robotics platform.

  • Ensure EMI/EMC compliance, signal integrity, and thermal design best practices for high-reliability electronics in a compact mobile system.

  • Collaborate with firmware engineers on real-time control strategies for smooth, compliant motion.

  • Work with mechanical engineers to integrate thermal management solutions for batteries, high-power electronics, and motors.

  • Define the electrical architecture for real-time control, networking, and system diagnostics, ensuring high-speed, low-latency communication between actuators, sensors, and compute nodes.

  • Support bring-up, debugging, and testing of prototype robots, working closely with firmware and mechanical teams.

  • Work with vendors and contract manufacturers to source high-quality components and oversee the production of key electronics subsystems.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years experience in electrical engineering, specializing in power electronics, motor control, or embedded system design.

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Strong PCB design and layout skills (Altium, KiCad, or similar) with an understanding of high-power circuits, signal integrity, and thermal constraints.

    • Proficiency with embedded system interfaces (FDCAN, SPI, I2C, RS485, USB) and experience working with STM32 microcontrollers.

    • Experience with motor control systems, including BLDC/PMSM drive electronics, gate drivers, and sensors.

    • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, including experience with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, etc.

    • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and compliance standards for industrial or robotics systems.

    • Experience working in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or other real-time electromechanical systems.

    • Demonstrated experience in scaling designs for high-volume manufacturing.

    • Strong leadership, teamwork, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice-to-have Qualifications

  • Experience with lithium-ion battery systems, BMS hardware/software, and power distribution architectures.

  • Previous experience in robotics or control systems.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work on groundbreaking robotics technology, enabling the next generation of humanoid robots to interact dynamically with their environments.

  • A collaborative and innovative environment that fosters creativity and exploration.

  • Equity ownership in the company

  • Health Benefits (Medical, Dental, and Vision)

Compensation

$120k - $200k/yr, plus equity
