Senior Electrical Engineer Electronics Design Location: Carlsbad, CA Onsite Schedule: 9/80 schedule every other Friday off Salary: $120,000 $175,000 annually Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and testing of advanced electronic systems and precision electro-optical products. This is a hands-on engineering role responsible for taking electronic designs from initial requirements and architecture through schematic design, board development, integration, testing, and production release. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with mixed-signal circuit design, microcontroller-based electronics, embedded C, and board-level hardware development. The engineer will work closely with electrical, optical, mechanical, software, firmware, and FPGA engineering teams throughout the complete product development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop analog, digital, power, and mixed-signal electronic circuits and PCB assemblies.
- Translate system-level requirements into electrical architectures, block diagrams, schematics, and detailed circuit designs.
- Design and develop mixed-signal low-voltage current driver boards.
- Develop board-level designs incorporating microcontrollers and other embedded electronics.
- Program and debug microcontrollers using embedded C.
- Design and troubleshoot stepper motor control circuits.
- Perform circuit analysis and simulation using tools such as SPICE and other electrical design platforms.
- Create schematics and support PCB development using tools such as Altium, Cadence, OrCAD, Xpedition, PADS, or Mentor Graphics.
- Lead bench-level hardware integration and troubleshooting alongside software, firmware, and FPGA engineers.
- Develop test plans and procedures to validate circuit performance against functional requirements.
- Conduct design analysis, performance budgeting, trade studies, and component evaluations.
- Prepare and present electrical designs, analysis, and test results during engineering and customer design reviews.
- Support prototype builds, system integration, qualification testing, and production release.
- Participate in proposal development and early program activities to define system requirements.
- Take ownership of electrical designs throughout the complete development lifecycle.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with relevant professional experience; advanced degree considered.
- Strong hands-on experience with board-level electrical/electronic design.
- Experience designing analog, digital, power, and/or mixed-signal circuits.
- Experience designing electronics incorporating microcontrollers.
- Experience with embedded C programming and microcontroller debugging.
- Experience with stepper motor control or motor drive circuitry.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools such as Altium, Cadence, OrCAD, Xpedition, PADS, or Mentor Graphics.
- Experience with circuit simulation and analysis tools such as SPICE.
- Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, integration, troubleshooting, and validation.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, electro-optical, robotics, or other high-reliability electronic systems.
- Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
- Experience combining analog, digital, communications, and FPGA-based system designs.
- Experience taking circuit designs through the complete development cycle from architecture through integration and test.
- Knowledge of electronic component selection, parts availability, and design architecture.
- Experience with version-control tools and engineering documentation practices.
- Experience presenting technical designs and analysis during formal design reviews.
