POSITION TITLE: SENIOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND MAINTENANCE MANAGER
LOCATION: HOUSTON, TX
FLSA CLASS: EXEMPT
Position Summary: The Sr. Electrical Systems and Maintenance Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation and maintenance of all electrical systems within mobile and stationary operations. This role leads maintenance personnel, manages preventative and predictive maintenance programs, ensures regulatory compliance, investigative lead on root cause analysis of failures, and drives continuous improvement in system reliability and uptime.
The Sr. Electrical Systems and Maintenance Manager serves as the technical authority for maintenance and troubleshooting of failures related to medium- and low-voltage systems, protection relays, motor control centers (MCCs), generators, transformers, instrumentation and controls, and associated electrical infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This role will be responsible for management of the change process for engineering design modifications, deployment of software, PLC changes,electrical protection, changes to safety protection systems.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce a strong electrical safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70/70E, NEC, IEEE, and local regulatory requirements.
- Ensure completion of arc flash studies, labeling, and PPE programs.
- Enforce LOTO procedures and electrical switching protocols.
- Lead incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
Maintenance Strategy & Execution
- Develop and manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices.
- Administer maintenance intervals for switchgear, breakers, transformers, relays, VFDs, motors, and alternators.
- Use company CMMS systems to track work orders, asset history, and performance metrics.
- Monitor electrical system health using thermography, power quality analysis, relay event data, and condition monitoring tools.
Operations Support
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting medium- and low-voltage systems.
- Participate in commissioning and startup of new electrical equipment.
- Coordinate outages, shutdowns, and planned maintenance windows.
- Support emergency response and rapid fault diagnosis.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and develop electricians, technicians, and contractors.
- Continue development of training plans and technical development programs.
- Conduct performance reviews and workforce planning.
- Manage staffing schedules and on-call rotations.
Asset Reliability & Performance
- Monitor KPIs including uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance cost per MW (or per production unit).
- Identify failure trends and implement root cause analysis (RCA).
- Lead capital improvement projects and lifecycle replacement planning.
- Support energy efficiency and power quality improvement initiatives.
Budget & Vendor Management
- Develop and manage annual maintenance budgets.
- Forecast capital expenditures for electrical upgrades and replacements.
- Evaluate and manage service contracts and vendors.
- Ensure spare parts inventory optimization for critical components.
Other Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7-10+ years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance.
- 3+ years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of: Medium-voltage systems (5kV-35kV), switchgear and protective relays, power distribution systems, Motors, VFDs, MCCs, transformers and grounding systems, instrumentation and controls for process equipment, data communication systems and protocol.
- Experience with CMMS platforms.
- Working knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards.
- Ability to manage high-pressure operational environments. Excellent communication skills (technical and executive level).Strategic planning and reliability mindset. Strong leadership and team development skills.
- Electrical failure diagnosis and root cause analysis
- Industrial setting with exposure to high-voltage equipment.
- Ability to travel between multiple sites.
- On-call availability for emergency response.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and variable weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- NETA certification.
- Experience with:Power generation systems, Protection relays (SEL, ABB, GE Multilin, etc.), Generator synchronization and paralleling, SCADA and PLC systems
