Senior Electrical Wiring Designer

Overview
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Wiring Designer to support complex power generation and industrial infrastructure projects for our client in Reading, Pennsylvania. This is an excellent contract-to-hire opportunity for a highly experienced electrical design professional who thrives in a collaborative engineering environment and enjoys contributing to technically challenging projects.
In this role, you will provide advanced electrical design and drafting support for medium and low-voltage power systems, instrumentation systems, and facility wiring design. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality project documentation while ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently execute complex electrical wiring design assignments for power generation and industrial projects.
- Develop and produce detailed electrical design deliverables including:
- One-line diagrams
- MCC and switchgear layouts
- Elementary and interconnection drawings
- Instrument loop drawings
- DCS and PLC wiring termination drawings
- Power and instrumentation cabling designs
- Prepare detailed wiring drawings for lighting, small power, and earthing systems.
- Design and draft MV/LV single-line diagrams and control/wiring schematics.
- Support AC/DC distribution panel layouts and process area electrical equipment layouts.
- Perform cable scheduling and cable sizing calculations.
- Conduct field visits and panel audits as needed to verify existing conditions and support project execution.
- Review vendor submittals to ensure equipment compliance with project requirements and specifications.
- Coordinate wiring design integration across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical insight regarding electrical system design challenges and solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior designers and support teams.
- Maintain project quality standards while delivering assigned work scopes on schedule and within budget.
Qualifications
Required Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience in electrical and instrumentation wiring design within power generation or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of electrical drafting and design standards for power systems.
- Proficiency with:
- SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL)
- SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)
- AutoCAD
- MicroStation
- Experience developing detailed electrical wiring and control system documentation.
- Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and quality assurance procedures related to electrical power projects.
- Strong communication and coordination skills within multidisciplinary project teams.
Education Requirements
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Design, Drafting, or related field with coursework focused on power systems required.
- Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and directly related industry experience will also be considered.
