Job Description

The Senior Integral Safety engineer focuses on passive and active safety systems in a vehicle to ensure they are safe and perform as expected. The engineer will play a key role in Mercedes-Benz as a Regulatory liaison; facilitate internal communication, support rating and compliance tests and act as an interface with regulatory officials at the local and federal levels in the US.

Job Responsibilities:
- Identify emerging topics that could have impact on one or more of the relevant regulatory affairs topics.
- Develop and submit technical and strategic input to regulatory inquiries, federal processes, standards, voluntary commitments and research activities.
- Develop technical comments to rulemaking and provide technical support for rating and compliance tests.
- Develop Mercedes-Benz response to rating agency inquiries.
- Conduct benchmark studies and support communication and outreach events.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Science
- 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- We seek an individual with experience working with members of the relevant regulatory agencies, their staff and/or other key policymakers.
- The person must be a strong player with the ability to multitask and enjoy working in a collegial yet highly fast-paced and effective culture.
- The person demonstrates the ability to adapt quickly, work independently, exercise sound judgement, execute strategy and operate with confidentiality.
- The person must have excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Valid US Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the automotive industry.
- Safety technology knowledge.
This position may involve access to export-controlled technology, hardware, or software under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), 15 C.F.R. Parts 730-774 and possibly technical data, defense articles and defense services subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), 22 C.F.R. Parts 120-130. As such, Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America may be required to obtain an export license or authorization in accordance with United States law.
