Position Overview
This Senior Civil Engineering Technician role supports multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, contributing to Grid Solutions projects such as Substation and Overhead Transmission Line. You will help deliver critical civil infrastructure by supporting site development efforts including grading, drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities.
As part of the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team, you will function in a lead technician capacity, applying advanced civil engineering design expertise while guiding and mentoring other technicians. This role requires mastery of Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bentley MicroStation, along with the ability to produce high‑quality engineering deliverables for complex industrial and commercial facilities.
Required Skills
Advanced proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bentley MicroStation
Strong understanding of civil/site development design principles
Ability to lead, mentor, and guide other technicians
Strong judgment in interpreting design inputs and making deliverable decisions
Education
Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design‑Related Technology required
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Design‑Related Technology preferred
Minimum Qualifications
11+ years of related civil engineering technician experience
Ability to complete all pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, MVR, etc.)
Job Summary
Functions as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor
Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges
Contributes to innovative engineering solutions and design improvements
Uses digital design tools (CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create and modify technical deliverables
Provides consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians
Key Responsibilities
Design Standards — Establishes and communicates appropriate design and graphic standards
Deliverable Review — Reviews project requirements and ensures correct formats and content
Quality Assurance — Promotes quality and consistency across projects and teams
Input Coordination — Reviews design inputs for alignment and consistency
Code Compliance — Ensures deliverables meet applicable codes and standards
Process Improvement — May contribute to design guide updates and process improvements
Document Control — Manages drawing control and maintains historical project records
Complex Design Work — Applies engineering principles to complex design tasks
Technical Leadership — Provides guidance to other professionals and technicians
Calculations & Estimates — Performs design calculations, material takeoffs, and estimates
Deliverable Review — May review work produced by others
Production Oversight — May monitor production for consistency, budget, and schedule
Field Support — Supports field activities as required
Client Alignment — Communicates client interests and project drivers to the team
Training & Development — Identifies and supports training needs for supervised personnel
Special Assignments — May lead specialized design tasks or training presentations
