Position Summary

PacBio is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Financial Analyst, Corporate Finance to join our Finance organization. Reporting to the Director, Finance, this role will serve as a key business partner to G&A leadership, driving accuracy and insight in financial forecasting, budgeting, operating expense management, and cash flow planning. This high-visibility role also supports monthly close, management reporting, and liquidity planning, with the opportunity to expand finance support to additional functional areas over time.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, and is a proactive self-starter who is comfortable working independently, navigating ambiguity, and identifying opportunities to improve processes. Success in this role requires flexibility, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to step beyond defined responsibilities to support evolving business priorities and organizational needs. The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in both FP&A and accounting, with the ability to understand how operating results, working capital, and balance sheet activity translate into cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

Operating Expense Forecasting & Budgeting

  • Lead monthly forecasting and annual budgeting processes for G&A functions.
  • Partner with department heads to understand spending trends, headcount plans, and key initiatives.
  • Build and maintain detailed OPEX models, ensuring data integrity and alignment with corporate targets.
  • Identify and communicate key risks, opportunities, and drivers impacting expense performance.
  • Continuously improve forecasting tools, templates, and planning processes to increase accuracy and efficiency.

Cash Flow Planning & Treasury Support

  • Monitor company cash positions by reviewing operating bank account balances on a weekly basis and proactively initiate operating cash transfers as needed to ensure adequate liquidity and support ongoing business operations.
  • Own the quarterly and annual operating cash flow forecast using the indirect method, partnering cross-functionally to develop assumptions and accurately forecast working capital and other balance sheet activity. Apply a strong understanding of balance sheet accounts and cash flow mechanics to translate projected changes in assets and liabilities into operating cash flow.
  • Analyze cash flow trends and provide insights into key drivers, risks, and opportunities to improve forecast accuracy and liquidity planning.

Actuals Review & Month-End Close

  • Review actual results versus forecast and budget, providing clear explanations of variances and actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with Accounting to support the monthly close process, including preparation and review of accrual journal entries and reclass adjustments.
  • Prepare and post monthly accruals for operating expenses, ensuring proper expense recognition and cost center accuracy.
  • Perform headcount and departmental expense reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Ensure financial data integrity across systems and support audit and compliance requirements.

Corporate Management Reporting

  • Support corporate management reporting, integrating functional forecasts and results into company-wide reporting.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports highlighting financial trends, variances, and strategic insights.
  • Assist in preparation of materials for executive reviews, Board reporting, and quarterly business reviews (QBRs).
  • Partner with the Director, Finance to streamline reporting packages and enhance visibility into financial results.

Strategic Analysis & Process Improvement

  • Provide ad hoc analysis and modeling to support decision-making on cost optimization, investments, and headcount planning.
  • Contribute to FP&A team initiatives focused on automation, scalability, and process improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive FP&A, corporate accounting, or a combination of both, preferably in life sciences, biotechnology, or technology.
  • Strong understanding of operating expense management, forecasting, month-end close processes, and financial statement relationships.
  • Experience developing or supporting cash flow forecasts using the indirect method, with a solid understanding of working capital and balance sheet forecasting, strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and forecast balance sheet activity and understand its impact on operating cash flow.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; proficiency in SAP and planning tools such as Adaptive Insights or Anaplan a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
