Location - This role will be onsite based at our Elmhurst location and will require occasional visits to our Burr Ridge facility

About the role:

By building relationships with key stakeholders such as Operations, HR, Maintenance and Quality, the Senior H&S Manager will be a change champion as it develops and delivers strategic initiatives designed to mitigate risks.  In addition, this role will be responsible for expanding the Safety function and building a team that oversees all incident investigations, site audits,  training, OSHA compliance and worker's compensation management. 

Safety Program Development

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures tailored to our specific industry and operations.
  • Continuously assess safety performance metrics and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Provide timely and routine updates to site and Operational Leadership regarding safety topics, trends and opportunities.
  • Conduct job hazard and PPE analysis for all roles.
  • Manage agreements and service contracts with vendors, safety partners and own the overall safety budget.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory or industry changes and suggest improvements to ensure compliance.

Training And Education

  • Identify training needs and develop training programs that educate employees, contractors and visitors
  • Ensure training delivery is engaging, inclusive and effective. 
  • Define training requirements for all employees, including high-risk job assignments, and maintain company-wide training records.

Incident Investigation and Management

  • Accountable for the safety incident investigation progress, including proper root cause identification and timely implementation of corrective actions
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, including OSHA, representing the company during inspections, inquiries and annual reporting.
  • Manage all Workers Compensation claims to ensure that any claims pertaining to accidents at work are correctly processed and filed.
  • Manage claims on-line using our Third Party Administrators claims system
  • Review monthly loss runs, trends, reportable claims and/or problematic claims
  • Provide superior claim services to internal and external claim partners
  • Interface with Underwriters regarding claim status exposures. Discuss trends and other factors impacting their risks
  • Prepare and present internal management reports for claims with net exposure 
  • Participate in special projects

Safety Audits and Inspections

  • Develop risk-based safety audits specific to operational locations and challenges to identify hazards and proactively mitigate risks.
  • Review audit results and partner with site-specific safety coordinators and leadership to ensure timely completion of corrective actions.

People Management

  • Lead the Safety function and ensure the right positions and people are in place to ensure the current and future needs of the organization are satisfied.
  • Manage all aspects of performance and develop a high-performing organization through coaching, creation of development plans, establishing goals and objectives, and providing stretch opportunities to high-performing talent.
  • Partner with The People Team to develop a workforce plan and associated recruitment strategy. 

Site Security

  • Responsible for the development of a comprehensive site-security policy to maintain employee safety while on premises.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, coordinating with relevant authorities and management, including natural disasters, active shooters and utility interruptions
  • Build out the security process and workforce plan to protect employees, visitors and contractors, including the management of camera and badge access

Experience & Skills we value:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is desirable.
  • 7 + years in a safety leadership role in a manufacturing or warehousing/distribution operation
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in technology and/or equipment used in health and safety inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Proven experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Proven ability to drive a strong safety philosophy and implement constructive behavior changes in safety.
  • Interact effectively with all levels of management, supervision, and employees.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal communication, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Leadership and team-building skills, and ability to influence decision-makers.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing setting, at times working varied hours and shifts

Nice to have and/or you'll learn: 

  • Certification in safety management (CSP) is a plus.
  • OSHA certified instructor
  • Bilingual preferred

Base Pay range for this position:

  • $92,000 - $131,000 annually
  • Target Annual Bonus: 20% of base salary

The final discretionary compensation that will be offered for this role depends on a variety of factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.

Work Authorization Requirement:

This position requires current authorization to work in the United States. We do not provide visa sponsorship, including support for F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT), STEM OPT extensions, or other temporary work authorization programs.
