Senior HVAC Design Technician
Location: Portland, OR Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Overview
We are seeking a Senior HVAC Design Technician who can step in and contribute immediately within a fast-paced, technically advanced project environment. In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to lead the development of complex industrial HVAC and Process Exhaust systems supporting advanced manufacturing and high-technology facilities.
This position is ideal for an experienced designer who thrives in a dynamic setting and can operate with a high degree of independence, technical judgment, and initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design, layout, and routing of industrial building mechanical systems
- Develop P&IDs, plans, sections, and construction details
- Perform design activities across planning, conceptual, and detailed design phases
- Coordinate directly with clients, contractors, and internal engineering disciplines
- Apply expert knowledge of building mechanical systems and applicable codes to ensure design quality and accuracy
- Support project execution through collaboration and technical leadership
- Produce accurate, constructible design documentation aligned with project requirements
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 8+ years of AutoCAD design experience
- 4+ years of Revit design experience
- 5+ years of industrial building mechanical design experience
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. Mechanical Codes, specifically the International Mechanical Code (IMC)
- Demonstrated ability to independently execute design packages with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting complex industrial environments such as:
- Semiconductor manufacturing facilities
- Cleanrooms
- Data centers
- Advanced manufacturing facilities
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Technical or Associate's degree in a related discipline
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced problem-solving, planning, and analytical abilities
