Job Description

MR. AIR NYC

Senior HVAC Service Technician

Job type: Full-time

Work location: Based in Brooklyn, with field service throughout New York City

Pay: $45-$55 per hour in base pay, based on relevant experience and demonstrated technical competency

About MR. AIR NYC

MR. AIR NYC specializes in ductless mini-split, heat-pump, VRF, and high-performance HVAC systems throughout New York City. We work in brownstones, townhouses, apartments, condominiums, co-ops, and other properties where equipment access, electrical systems, condensate routing, and existing construction can make HVAC diagnosis especially challenging.

We are seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Service Technician who can independently diagnose complex problems, complete professional repairs, verify system operation, document findings, and help develop less-experienced technicians.

This is a senior service and diagnostic position requiring substantial independent troubleshooting experience beyond routine maintenance or installation-only work.

Responsibilities

  • Independently diagnose heating, cooling, electrical, controls, refrigerant, airflow, condensate, and communication problems.
  • Troubleshoot ductless mini-split, heat-pump, inverter, multi-zone, and VRF systems.
  • Use measurements, wiring diagrams, manufacturer documentation, service manuals, and appropriate diagnostic instruments to determine root cause.
  • Perform refrigerant leak diagnosis, recovery, pressure testing, evacuation, micron verification, charging, and related repairs in accordance with applicable requirements and manufacturer procedures.
  • Diagnose and replace motors, sensors, thermistors, pumps, boards, controls, valves, and related components when appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot condensate pumps, float switches, drains, water leaks, and drainage-related failures.
  • Verify system operation following repairs and document readings, findings, repairs, photographs, and final operating condition.
  • Communicate technical findings professionally to homeowners and property representatives.
  • Assist with warranty diagnosis and manufacturer technical-support communication.
  • Maintain an organized company service vehicle and follow company safety, customer-care, documentation, and property-protection standards.
  • Review callbacks and recurring service issues to help identify corrective actions.
  • Mentor developing technicians and explain diagnostic reasoning during appropriate service calls.
  • Participate in paid technical training, competency assessments, and field-lab sessions.
  • Help establish troubleshooting and service-quality standards for the department.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 5+ years of HVAC service and repair experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose HVAC problems.
  • Strong ductless mini-split and heat-pump experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal certification.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use a multimeter and appropriate HVAC diagnostic instruments.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration-system diagnosis and service procedures.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and manufacturer technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with inverter-driven equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company service vehicle in New York City.
  • Professional residential customer communication skills.
  • Ability to document work accurately using mobile applications.
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to less-experienced technicians.

Preferred Experience

Experience with Mitsubishi Electric, CITY MULTI/VRF, Fujitsu, Daikin, multi-zone inverter systems, branch boxes, concealed ducted systems, ceiling cassettes, advanced electrical diagnostics, airflow/static-pressure diagnostics, building-science principles, historic NYC housing, or technician mentoring is especially valuable.

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay is $45-$55 per hour, based on relevant experience and demonstrated competency.

Paid technical training and field-lab sessions are part of this position.

Hiring Process

Qualified candidates may participate in:

1. An initial experience screen.

2. A structured technical interview.

3. A practical diagnostic assessment.

4. Verification of EPA certification, driver's license qualifications, and relevant credentials. 5. Reference checks.
