Job Title: Senior Lead Transfer & Switchmen

Location: Birmingham, AL

Pay: $22.00/hour

Schedule: Full-Time (Mandatory overtime, weekends, and holidays as business dictates)

The Role:

Road & Rail Services has built a strong reputation as a leader in rail-focused logistics by putting people first and committing themselves to safe, high-quality service. In this Senior Lead role, you will play a crucial part in daily operations at our Birmingham location.

This position uniquely combines skilled transfer work, switching duties, and leadership responsibilities. You will help coordinate railcar movement, maintain operational flow, and perform safe, accurate product transfers. What You Bring to the Table

Must-Haves:

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to constantly work outdoors in all-weather elements (extreme heat, cold, dust, and noise) and walk on uneven surfaces throughout the entire shift.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Must be able to work mandatory overtime hours when operating requirements cannot be fulfilled during regular shifts.
  • Education & Licensing: High School Diploma or Equivalent, and a valid state driver's license to operate company equipment.
  • Safety First: A commitment to complying with and enforcing all OSHA, EPA, FRA, AAR, and DOT regulations.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Prior experience with transfer operations, railcar switching, or related industrial/rail work.
  • Proven leadership ability with strong communication skills to motivate and train a team.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Perform pre-shift briefings, assign daily work, and monitor employees to ensure they work safely and efficiently to achieve production goals.
  • Field Operations: Operate motorized equipment, conduct skilled transfer work, and assist in coordinating railcar movements safely.
  • Safety & Training: Actively train employees in applicable customer and company work instructions, quality procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Hazard Prevention: Identify and correct unsafe work conditions and practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Auditing & Reporting: Conduct various company and customer audits and ensure all accidents or equipment damage are promptly reported.

What We Offer

  • Starting Pay: $22.00/hour
  • Comprehensive Health: Full benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Financial Future: 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Work-Life Balance: Paid holidays and paid vacation time.
  • Safety Gear: Annual steel-toe boot allowance and all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided.
  • Career Growth: A stable, long-term opportunity with a promote-from-within culture that offers pathways to higher leadership roles.

Take the next step in your rail career. Apply now to lead our Birmingham team.
