Job Description

About us:

Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group's relationships with major corporate, government clients, and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional, and risk management products and services.

The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing equities, markets, lending, and transaction banking execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business customers.

The product suite that we provide our clients in the Americas is focused on lending, derivatives, and structured trade finance, enhanced by Global Capital Markets cross sell opportunities.

Picture yourself in the team:

The IB&M Credit Risk Americas Team in New York is responsible for risk management and oversight of credit exposures within IB&M in the Energy, Commodities, & Sustainability (ECS), Diversified Industries (DI), Financial and Strategic Investors (FSI), and Financial Institutions and Government (FIG) business units.

This role will be focused on Project Finance and Corporate clients.

Together with your Risk Management colleagues and in partnership with the IB&M Line 1 teams, you will be responsible for ensuring that all business is consistent with the Bank's risk appetite. This involves not only excellent risk analysis and experienced use of a credit approval delegation, but an ability to identify emerging risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Embedding ESG considerations into risk analysis and a genuine desire to continually seek better and more efficient ways of doing things, are also critical elements in the success of this very important role.

Do work that matters:

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Work as the senior risk adviser in a deal team environment to analyse clients and structures, prepare credit submissions and provide risk decisions or recommendations. This will include providing guidance on deal structuring, approval processes and policies, and developing risk management strategies.
  • Monitor and analyse market developments and global industry trends and provide guidance and advice to senior management on risk management matters related to the portfolio.
  • Present transactions and industry reports as the accountable Risk Senior Manager at various internal credit and business committee forums.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including internal business units, senior members of IB&M and Risk, and industry groups.
  • Collaborate with other risk management teams to ensure alignment of risk management strategies across the organisation.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the team through both individual team member development and process/policy/procedure simplification projects.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members and be an integral part of a very collaborative team with a high value placed on a strong team culture.

We are interested in hearing from people who have:

  • 8+ years of experience in credit risk management at a financial institution, with 3-5 years of experience in project finance risk preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline preferred. Formal credit training and existing credit approval authority at a financial institution are highly advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor a team.
  • Proficient problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, and experience in exercising a meaningful delegation.

The salary range for this role is from $205,000 to $250,000 + variable bonus. The salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.

In order to be considered, please indicate your minimum salary expectations and availability on the application form.
