The Role

We are looking for a dynamic HR professional to join our People Business Partner team supporting the Product, Design, Engineering, Security, & Support (PDESS) teams within Outreach. Candidates should have had success in supporting engineering & product populations before, including Product Design, Product Management, Technical Program Management, Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Data Scientists, etc. The ideal candidate will be operationally strong in HR practitioner work but will also demonstrate a deep curiosity for our business and leverage that understanding to support the businesses' future strategy needs. Our teams run quick and lean as most startups do – therefore the successful candidate will be one that has worked within startup and/or scaling environments and is familiar with the pace.
You'll act as the primary People partner to our Chief Product Officer, Chief Technical Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, VP of Technical Support, and VP of Design, advising these leaders on organizational design, talent strategy, workforce planning, and people-related decision-making. At the same time, you'll lead a small, distributed team of two Senior People Business Partners based in our Prague, Czechia and Hyderabad, India offices, ensuring consistent, high-quality HR partnership across time zones and cultures. This role sits at the intersection of strategic HR leadership and hands-on people management. You'll need to be equally comfortable advising a C-suite executive on succession planning as you are coaching your own direct reports through a complex employee relations issue. As our company continues to scale internationally, you'll play a key role in ensuring our People function operates as a true business partner, not just a support function, to the teams building and securing our product.
You will also closely partner with the other members of the People Team including the People Operations teams, Talent Acquisitions team and Compensation teams. Your knowledge about HR programs and process will be valued and appreciated in things such as: Performance Reviews, Performance Management, Engagement Surveys, Career Ladders and Manager Development.
Location: Seattle (Hybrid – minimum one day per week in-office)

Your Daily Adventures Will Include

  • Function as a consultant and counselor to key leaders and their respective organizations; engage in strategic planning meetings to incorporate business needs into HR programs and strategy. Partner with business and HR leadership to develop and execute HR strategies and activities with a lens towards the teams you support

  • Manage complex employee relations cases, ensuring fairness, consistency, and compliance with employment laws while mitigating risk and fostering trust. Conducting internal investigations with confidentiality and quickness while aligning with employment law. Working with employees and managers to resolve and document issues appropriately

  • Provide coaching and leadership development to managers, equipping them with the tools and strategies to optimize team performance and foster an inclusive and supportive work environment

  • Collaborate with other People Business Partners to develop People programs, such as: performance reviews, promotions, compensation cycles, and engagement surveys, customizing approaches to meet the unique needs of the business

  • Provide data-driven insights and recommendations on org health, attrition risk, engagement, and team effectiveness

  • Partner with Finance and Recruiting team and business leaders to determine new roles or backfills for departing employees

  • Lead efforts in team effectiveness and organizational change, driving process improvements, and ensuring seamless transitions during periods of growth or restructuring

  • Directly managing and developing two Senior People Business Partners located in Prague, Czechia and Hyderabad, India

  • Setting clear priorities, providing coaching, and building capability within your team so they can operate as strong, autonomous HR partners to their local stakeholders

  • Fostering a sense of connection and consistency across a geographically distributed People team, ensuring your direct reports feel supported despite time zone and cultural differences

  • Modeling and reinforcing global consistency in HR practices while allowing for thoughtful localization where needed

Our Vision of You

  • 8+ years of progressive HR/People experience, including significant time as an HR Business Partner or People Business Partner supporting technical functions (Product, Engineering, Security, IT, or similar)

  • 2+ years of experience directly managing HR/People professionals, ideally across a distributed or international team

  • Experience partnering with senior/executive-level leaders (VP and above) in a high-growth, fast-paced startup or SaaS environment

  • Experience working within a scaling technology company where structure and process are still evolving

  • Experience with development of HR Programs such as Performance Management (Reviews), Engagement Survey Planning and development programs for start-ups. Knowledge of what works and what does not in this environment

  • Must have extensive experience of managing employee relations issues (including running investigations), including state and federal laws

  • A track record of balancing strategic planning with operational execution, demonstrating a proactive, solutions-oriented approach

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data to inform decisions, solve complex challenges, and drive measurable outcomes

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization

  • Adept at managing ambiguity and navigating through change with resilience and creativity

  • Empathetic, vulnerable and passionate about driving the right business outcomes

  • Effective verbal, written and facilitation skills

  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills. Experience using and presenting data to identify insights that drive actions

  • Ability to relate to, influence and coach employees at all levels in the organization from individual contributors to Senior Leadership

The annual base salary range for this role is $170,000 - $185,000. You may also be offered incentive compensation, bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, location and experience. Final offers are determined through a holistic assessment and will vary within the posted range. Your Recruiter will share specific details based on your location and role during the hiring process.
