Position Summary...

Walmart is seeking a strategic and results-driven Senior Manager, Specialty Compliance & Ethics – Renewable Energy to lead enterprise-wide renewable energy compliance, Renewable Energy Credit (REC) portfolio management, and Energy Benchmarking & Building Performance Standards (BPS) programs.This role sits within the EH&S Energy Compliance team and is critical to advancing Walmart’s renewable energy strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance across a rapidly expanding portfolio, and supporting the company’s broader sustainability and decarbonization goals.As regulatory requirements accelerate nationwide, this leader will drive scalable processes, automation, and governance frameworks to ensure best-in-class compliance performance while enabling business growth. The role requires strong cross-functional leadership, regulatory expertise, and the ability to translate complex energy compliance requirements into actionable business strategies.

What you'll do...

  • Enterprise Renewable Energy & REC Portfolio Leadership
    • Own and oversee all REC accounting across Walmart’s renewable energy portfolio, including internal accounting systems and national REC registries (PJM GATS, MRETS, WREGIS, ERCOT, and others).
    • Lead REC lifecycle management including delivery, tracking, reconciliation, retirement, and audit readiness.
    • Partner with Renewable Energy Originators and developers to ensure accurate REC settlements and portfolio optimization.
    • Monitor evolving REC market structures and regulatory changes to proactively mitigate risk and identify strategic opportunities.
  • Energy Benchmarking & Building Performance Standards (BPS) Strategy
    • Direct compliance for Energy Benchmarking and BPS programs across multiple jurisdictions using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and regulatory portals.
    • Develop scalable governance frameworks to manage expanding reporting requirements.
    • Oversee third-party vendors and industry consultants supporting benchmarking and BPS compliance.
    • Ensure audit readiness and regulatory reporting accuracy across all impacted facilities.
  • Data, Systems & Process Optimization
    • Design and implement automation tools to streamline energy data aggregation and regulatory reporting.
    • Improve internal controls, reporting accuracy, and risk mitigation processes.
    • Identify technology solutions to enhance compliance visibility and operational efficiency.
  • Executive Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Deliver formal presentations and strategic insights to Walmart Energy Leadership.
    • Provide regular reporting on benchmarking, BPS compliance, and voluntary REC portfolio performance.
    • Translate regulatory developments into executive-level risk assessments and strategic recommendations.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Partner with Facilities Management, Real Estate, Utility Partnerships, Sustainability, Finance, and Legal to align energy efficiency and compliance initiatives.
    • Support enterprise-wide energy efficiency programs and building audits to reduce energy consumption and regulatory exposure.
    • Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement across stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring...
  • Deep expertise in Renewable Energy Credit (REC) markets, registries, and lifecycle management.
  • Extensive experience with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and jurisdictional benchmarking/BPS program portals.
  • Strong understanding of energy deregulation markets and commodities frameworks.
  • Background in risk management, regulatory compliance, or energy/commodities management.
  • Experience implementing or managing energy efficiency programs and building audits.
  • Proven ability to develop scalable compliance processes in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.
  • Strong executive communication skills with experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives across complex organizations.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data and automation for operational improvement.
