The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking a Senior Paralegal to provide litigation support to the Civil Rights Division's Appellate Section in Washington, DC. This position is fully onsite and supports attorneys handling complex federal civil rights litigation and appellate matters.

The Appellate Section of the Civil Rights Division represents the United States in civil rights cases before federal courts of appeals, working with trial sections across the Division on significant civil rights enforcement matters. The Section handles appeals arising from federal civil rights cases, monitors important civil rights litigation nationwide, files amicus briefs when appropriate, assists with Supreme Court matters, and provides legal guidance on emerging civil rights issues. Its work contributes to the development and enforcement of federal civil rights law.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Paralegal works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal and provides comprehensive litigation and appellate support to multiple attorneys. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, the successful candidate will independently develop assignments with minimal supervision while following established guidelines and procedures.

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct moderately complex legal research using applicable legal research resources.
  • Prepare summaries of hearing transcripts, appellate arguments, and other case materials for attorney review.
  • Review case files and related documents to identify inconsistencies, conflicting statements, evidentiary issues, and areas requiring additional investigation.
  • Prepare preliminary drafts of legal memoranda, correspondence, and litigation-related documents.
  • Review and analyze documents using Relativity or RelOne.
  • Support multiple attorneys with litigation and appellate case preparation.
  • Assist with document review, organization, and production efforts.
  • Support trial activities both onsite and offsite as needed.
  • Assist with electronic discovery and automated litigation support tasks.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Paralegal certificate, Juris Doctorate, current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with completion of at least one year of study, or equivalent legal training and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of litigation paralegal experience or relevant project experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience supporting automated litigation support projects.
  • In-depth experience using Relativity or RelOne.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal procedures, and litigation processes.
  • Strong legal research skills and experience using resources such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Experience with legal technology applications, including document management systems, databases, spreadsheets, imaging tools, and file management platforms.
  • Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

  • Trial support experience.
  • Active or current security clearance.

Pay Range:

This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI's government contract for the work location.

Minimum Required Hourly Wage:

$31.69
