Senior Paralegal

Location: San Antonio, TX (U.S. Attorney's Office – Western District of Texas)Work Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CTWork Arrangement: Primarily onsite; limited remote work may be approved by the Contracting Officer or Contracting Officer Representative.Travel: Occasional travel within the district and, at times, outside the district as required.Security Requirement: U.S. Citizenship required. Ability to successfully pass a DOJ background investigation and obtain required security approvals.

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Senior Paralegals to support the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO), Western District of Texas, in San Antonio. These professionals will provide litigation support services to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) handling matters related to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Fence litigation and associated land acquisition actions.

The Senior Paralegal will play a critical role in case management, legal research, document preparation, title review, witness interview support, trial preparation, and litigation reporting. This position requires strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex legal matters in a fast-paced federal litigation environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in all phases of litigation.
  • Assist with witness interviews and prepare interview summaries and records for use during depositions.
  • Review title commitments for accuracy and prepare deed history summaries.
  • Prepare and maintain:
    • Declarations of Taking Reports
    • Amended Declarations of Taking Reports
    • Complaints
    • Notices
    • Joint Motions to Close
    • Motions to Suppress
  • Summarize depositions, hearings, and other legal transcripts.
  • Maintain case files and organize litigation records.
  • Manage exhibits and supporting materials for depositions, hearings, and trial proceedings.
  • Document and track landowner complaints and prepare monthly status reports.
  • Provide courtroom support, including exhibit management and document review for relevance and privilege.
  • Conduct legal, title, and records research utilizing various recordkeeping systems and databases.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze data relevant to litigation matters.
  • Develop statistical analyses, charts, graphs, tables, and reports to support legal strategies.
  • Design and maintain systems for tracking cases, exhibits, and litigation materials.
  • Prepare recurring case status reports and other litigation support documentation.
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Finance, English, Journalism, or a related field;

OR

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus a Paralegal Certificate.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing legal support services, including drafting:
    • Correspondence
    • Pleadings
    • Motions
    • Proposed Orders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting litigation matters and managing legal documentation.
  • Strong written communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain required DOJ security clearances and background investigation approval.

  • Experience in:
    • Real estate law
    • Eminent domain matters
    • Land acquisition litigation
    • Mineral interests
    • Oil and gas law
  • Experience supporting federal government litigation or Department of Justice matters.

Additional Information

  • Overtime may be required and must be approved in advance.
  • Work is generally performed during normal federal business hours.
  • Government-furnished equipment, office space, and resources will be provided.
  • Employees must complete required DOJ ethics, cybersecurity, confidentiality, and security training.
  • The position requires strict adherence to confidentiality, privacy, and Department of Justice security protocols.
  • Contractors must identify themselves as contractor personnel when conducting interviews or communicating with witnesses on behalf of the government.
