Job Description

Job Description Summary

As a Senior Paralegal at Goosehead headquarters, you will serve as a senior-level legal specialist within the Company's legal department, with primary responsibility for supporting and advancing the risk, claims, and regulatory (RCR) function. You will play a critical role in managing complex workflows, driving process consistency, and serving as a subject matter resource for RCR related legal matters.

This role requires a highly proactive individual who operates with a high degree of independence, exercises sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and takes ownership of both processes and outcomes within the RCR practice area. In addition to individual contributions, this role is expected to provide guidance and informal leadership to junior team members within the specialty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead RCR Process Execution and Ownership

  • Own and manage core RCR workflows, including professional liability claims-related matters, regulatory inquiries, and risk mitigation processes.

  • Independently handle higher-complexity matters, including sensitive regulatory responses (e.g., DOI inquiries), escalated claims issues, and cross-functional risk matters.

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent execution of all RCR processes.

  • Subject Matter Expertise

  • Serve as a primary point of contact within the legal department for RCR-related questions, issues, and escalations.

  • Interpret and apply regulatory requirements and internal policies to real-world scenarios.

  • Identify trends, risks, and gaps within RCR workflows and escalate appropriately.

  • Process Development and Optimization

  • Evaluate existing RCR processes and implement improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and risk mitigation.

  • Partner with attorneys and Legal Operations to refine procedures and ensure alignment with legal and business objectives.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of playbooks, SOPs, and training materials.

  • Matter and Workflow Oversight

  • Oversee intake, triage, and tracking of RCR matters within LMM and other systems, ensuring data integrity and proper categorization.

  • Coordinate across stakeholders (internal business teams, external partners, regulators) to drive matters to resolution.

  • Anticipate bottlenecks and proactively manage timelines and deliverables.

  • Support Complex Investigations and Responses

  • Lead fact-gathering efforts for regulatory inquiries, claims disputes, and internal investigations.

  • Draft and/or coordinate responses to administrative agencies (e.g., DOI), subpoenas, and other formal requests, with attorney oversight as needed.

  • Synthesize information into clear, actionable summaries for legal review.

  • Mentorship and Team Support

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, training, and quality control support to junior paralegals within the RCR function.

  • Act as a resource for process-related questions and help reinforce team standards and best practices.

  • Assist in onboarding and training new team members within the specialty.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with internal stakeholders (e.g., Claims, Compliance, Operations) to address risk-related issues and improve workflows.

  • Translate legal and regulatory requirements into practical guidance for business teams.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of collective experience in RCR, or a closely related practice area required.

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a corporate or in-house legal environment is required.

  • Prior experience in a leadership role, or demonstrated experience guiding, mentoring, or overseeing the work of junior team members required.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional attention to detail, including strong proofreading, grammar, and editing skills, with a high degree of factual accuracy.

  • Strong working knowledge of legal terminology, practices, and professional standards.

  • Highly responsive and self-driven, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic legal environment with minimal oversight.

  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage ambiguity, assess risk, and exercise sound judgment in complex situations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate clearly with both legal and business stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities independently, while maintaining timely and accurate execution.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, including developing junior team members, providing guidance on workflows, and reinforcing process consistency and quality standards.

  • Ability to evaluate and improve processes, contributing to documentation, standardization, and operational efficiency across recurring workflows.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe, with the ability to conduct research and quickly learn internal LMM and CLM tools; experience with Salesforce or Ironclad is a plus.
