Sentara is hiring a Senior Pharmacy Technician for our Specialty Pharmacy Case Management team at Norfolk General Hospital
Location: Norfolk, VA
Status: Full Time (40 hrs/wk)
Shift: Rotating Days shift
Hours: 8am-4:30pm / 8:30am-5pm / 9:30am-6pm
Occasional Saturdays
The Senior Pharmacy Technician provides pharmacy services under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. Demonstrates advanced skills and ownership of the work area. Provides technician leadership and independent judgment in providing patient care.
- Analyzes information required to complete specialized job functions
- Assumes local and system responsibility for assigned areas
- Serves as a resource for the staff, and coordinates the schedule and daily activities of the department
- Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership for the work area
- Continually seeks out additional training opportunities and stay abreast of new and changing information for assigned areas
- Supports the training of new employees and participates in the creation and maintenance of training materials
- Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner
- Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
- Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
- Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
- Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
Certification/Licensure
Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)
CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Preferred)
Experience
Five years of Pharmacy Experience (Required)
