Job Description

At Weave, we're building the operating system for small healthcare practices powering communication, payments, and now AI-driven experiences for thousands of businesses and millions of patients.

As a Senior Frontend DevX Engineer, you will be responsible for helping to build the platform used by engineers and product managers. A major part of this role will be owning the internal developer portal built on Backstage. This is a role for engineers who want real ownership who care deeply about craft, performance, and long-term system health and who thrive in environments where the goals are clear but the path forward requires thought, collaboration, and leadership.

Our ideal candidate takes initiative without waiting for direction. They care deeply about customer impact as much as clear architecture and enjoy resolving ambiguity and influencing technical decisions. We're excited to bring in talent that wants to elevate engineers around them.

If you're excited by meaningful ownership, technical influence, and building products that power real-world businesses you'll thrive at Weave.

  • This position will be remote

  • Reports to: Senior Engineering Manager

What You Will Own

  • Lead the end-to-end technical execution of frontend initiatives within the platform engineering team, from shaping requirements and writing technical design proposals through implementation, testing, and production release.

  • Translate department initiatives and team goals into scalable frontend architecture decisions, balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.

  • Contribute meaningfully to the evolution of our internal developer portal and other UI applications, improving shared libraries, platform capabilities, and system design.

  • Operate effectively in ambiguous problem spaces identifying risks, validating assumptions, and proactively de-risking solutions before they impact delivery.

  • Ensure the long-term health of the codebase by reducing technical debt, improving test coverage, and setting high standards for code quality and performance.

  • Collaborate closely with the team to align on trade-offs, API contracts, and non-functional requirements such as performance, reliability, and security.

  • Proactively monitor, debug, and resolve production issues, contributing to observability, incident response, and post-mortems that strengthen our systems over time.

  • Mentor and support other engineers through thoughtful code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing that raises the bar for the entire team.

  • Maintain an active awareness of business priorities and customer impact, ensuring your technical decisions align with Weave's broader product and company goals.

What You Will Need to Accomplish the Job

  • 5+ years building modern web applications using TypeScript/JavaScript.

  • 3+ years working with React (or similar modern frontend framework).

  • Experience leading technical implementation of production features end-to-end.

  • Strong understanding of frontend architecture, state management, and performance optimization.

  • Experience consuming and influencing RESTful APIs.

  • Full-stack engineering experience

  • Familiarity with debugging complex production issues.

  • Experience writing automated tests (unit + integration+ E2E).

What Will Make Us Love You

  • Deep knowledge of idiomatic TypeScript

  • Experience building CICD workflows

  • Experience with Backstage, the internal developer portal framework

  • Experience with NX monorepos, Storybook, Sentry, Playwright, Cypress (or similar tools).

  • Experience performance benchmarking and tuning (e.g., measuring and improving load times, bundle size, or responsiveness)..

  • Understanding of how frontend systems are deployed, monitored, and operated in production.

  • Experience with protobuf or other formal API specifications

  • Experience with Golang

  • Experience with gRPC
