Senior Plumbing Design Technician
Location: Tempe, AZ Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Schedule: Full-Time
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Plumbing Design Technician to join their growing engineering and design team in Tempe, Arizona. This role is ideal for a highly skilled designer with strong industrial plumbing experience who can lead design efforts, collaborate across disciplines, and deliver high-quality construction documentation for complex facilities.
This position offers a contract-to-hire pathway with long-term growth potential supporting advanced industrial and manufacturing projects.
Position Overview
The Senior Plumbing Design Technician will lead the design, layout, and routing of industrial plumbing systems from early planning through detailed design. This individual will work closely with engineers, clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to develop accurate and code-compliant design packages.
Key Responsibilities
Lead design, layout, and routing of industrial plumbing systems
Develop P&IDs, plans, sections, and detailed construction drawings
Perform design tasks across planning, conceptual, and detailed design phases
Coordinate directly with clients, contractors, and internal engineering disciplines
Apply expert knowledge of plumbing systems and applicable codes to ensure design quality and accuracy
Produce complete and coordinated design documentation with minimal supervision
Support project teams in resolving design challenges and technical issues
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
8+ years of AutoCAD design experience
4+ years of Revit design experience
5+ years of industrial plumbing design experience, including system layout and routing
Strong working knowledge of U.S. Plumbing Codes, specifically:
International Plumbing Code (IPC)
Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting complex industrial environments such as:
Semiconductor manufacturing facilities
Cleanrooms
Data centers
Advanced manufacturing facilities
Technical or Associate's degree in a related discipline
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Advanced problem-solving, planning, and analytical abilities
Demonstrated ability to independently execute design packages with minimal supervision
