Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following responsibilities represent the essential functions of the Senior Portfolio Manager position. - Lead and continually refine the investment philosophy, asset allocation approach, portfolio strategies, and implementation.
- Monitor markets, economic conditions, investment managers, and portfolio performance to identify risks, opportunities, and appropriate portfolio changes.
- Lead due diligence and selection of ETFs, mutual funds, separately managed accounts, and other investment solutions.
- Oversee portfolio implementation and trading, including rebalancing, cash investment, tax-loss harvesting, and tax-efficient portfolio management.
- Evaluate portfolio performance and investment results to ensure strategies remain aligned with the firm’s investment philosophy and client objectives.
- Prepare portfolio analyses, investment recommendations, and talking points for client meetings, including explanations of performance drivers and recommended changes.
- Provide regular market and portfolio commentary to financial planners, translating complex investment information into clear and useful insights.
- Participate in client meetings as needed to provide investment expertise and address portfolio- and market-related questions.
- Oversee investment-related costs and fee strategy, including product selection, custodial considerations, and client asset-based fees.
- Partner with financial planning, operations, compliance, and leadership to maintain disciplined, scalable, and effective investment processes.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen investment processes, portfolio implementation, and the overall client experience as the firm continues to grow.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant investment or portfolio management experience [REQUIRED]
- Demonstrated success and experience with portfolio construction, asset allocation, investment due diligence, performance analysis, and tax-aware investing.
- Experience with Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA) [PREFERRED]
- Investment expertise: Demonstrates sophisticated knowledge of portfolio construction, asset allocation, investment strategies, and portfolio implementation.
- Market awareness: Maintains a strong understanding of markets, economic conditions, investment managers, and factors that may affect client portfolios.
- Analytical judgment: Evaluates investment opportunities, risks, and performance with disciplined, evidence-based thinking and sound judgment.
- Communication: Translates complex market and portfolio information into clear, actionable insights for financial planners and clients.
- Client Relationship Building: Communicates investment strategies and portfolio decisions in a way that supports a thoughtful, planning-focused client experience.
- Tax-aware investing: Applies tax-efficient investment strategies, including rebalancing, cash management, and tax-loss harvesting, as appropriate.
- Intellectual curiosity: Continually evaluates investment research, market developments, and opportunities to strengthen the firm’s investment approach.
- Organization and execution: Manages investment responsibilities with accuracy, consistency, and disciplined follow-through.
- Collaboration: Partners effectively with financial planning, operations, compliance, and leadership to support scalable investment processes.
- Initiative and ownership: Takes responsibility for the investment function while identifying opportunities to improve portfolio implementation, processes, and the overall client experience.
