Job Description

Senior Process Controls Engineer - Electrical Purpose of the Role

This position is intended to increase plant productivity, improve product quality, enhance safety, and contribute to profitability. The Senior Process Controls Engineer will lead engineering projects from concept through installation, support maintenance and operations, and work with cross-functional teams to solve complex electrical and automation challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage electrical engineering projects end-to-end, including planning, budgeting, specification, equipment selection, installation, and commissioning.
  • Write and manage appropriation requests; coordinate with internal engineering, support groups, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Train operators and maintenance personnel on new systems or modifications.
  • Troubleshoot existing equipment, processes, and electrical circuitry to ensure reliability and maintain uptime.
  • Perform feasibility studies; collect and analyze data; drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, waste, and downtime.
  • Improve product quality by ensuring equipment and processes meet customer expectations and internal standards.
  • Use problem solving, lean manufacturing, and failure analysis tools to improve equipment reliability.
  • Produce thorough, accurate documentation (designs, drawings, test results, procedures) for electrical systems and control logic.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong ability to apply electrical fundamentals in operation, troubleshooting, and design of industrial machinery and systems.
  • Proficiency with PLCs (programming, debugging, ladder logic) and HMIs.
  • Experience with VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) and servo/drive control systems.
  • Experience drafting/designing using 2D CAD tools (e.g. AutoCAD).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, able to think both strategically and tactically in resolving issues.
  • Project leadership experience: planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating resources.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; able to explain technical details to non-technical stakeholders.

Desired/Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to bearing manufacturing, assembly, and inspection processes.
  • Experience in automotive supply chain / product launch / PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
  • Hands-on experience with Client & Allen-Bradley PLCs & HMI systems.
  • Deep knowledge of grinding machinery, precision machining, or metal working equipment.
  • Experience with vision systems, robot systems / robot programming.
  • Relay logic, CNC troubleshooting, eddy current systems.
  • Experience designing or modifying control circuits and safety interlocks.
A few other things to be mindful of:
  • This person needs to be comfortable in a plant environment with a mix of older and newer equipment - not someone who has worked primarily in a greenfield setting
  • Communication matters - you'll be working across operations, maintenance, and cross-functional teams, so you need to be able to work with people, not just systems
  • The electrical engineering depth is the priority - the team has mechanical and facility coverage; what they need is someone who strengthens the electrical and automation side
