Job Description

THE ORGANIZATION

The Center for Justice Innovation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing community safety and racial justice. Since 1996, we’ve worked alongside communities, courts, and those most directly affected by the justice system to build stronger, healthier, and more equitable neighborhoods. With a team of over 900 staff and an annual budget of $130 million, the Center carries out its mission through three core strategies:

  1. Operating Programs that pilot new ideas and address local challenges;
  2. Conducting original research to evaluate what works—and what doesn’t; and
  3. Providing expert assistance and policy guidance to reformers across the country and beyond.

Backed by decades of on-the-ground experience and nationally recognized expertise, we bring innovative, practical, and lasting solutions to justice systems nationwide.Learn more about our work at www.innovatingjustice.org.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Community Justice Solutions (CJS) is a new national venture of the Center. CJS is organized around six impact areas that reflect the Center’s deepest areas of practice and expertise, which are: Community Safety, Front-End Systems Change, People-Centered Courts, Restorative Practices, Intimate Partner Safety and Justice, and the Housing-Justice Nexus.

CJS is seeking a temporary Senior Program Manager to work primarily on projects related to problem-solving courts and initiatives, and jail reduction, as well as support other projects as needed and assigned. Reporting to the Principal of CJS overseeing this area of work, the Senior Program Manager will provide targeted training and technical assistance (TTA) focused on community courts, veteran’s treatment courts, drug treatment courts, prosecutor-led diversion initiatives, pretrial supervision, procedural justice, jail reduction, and racial equity, and other areas of justice system reform. The Senior Program Manager will be expected to develop and write new publications, support grantees and jurisdictions by delivering onsite and remote TTA, develop and maintain both asynchronous and synchronous training content, and nurture partner relationships.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Lead with development of monographs, fact sheets, toolkits, guidance documents, website features, and other written products and publications, as well as online content;
  • Provide expert assistance to problem-solving courts and justice system partners, and community seeking to plan, implement, or enhance community, veteran, drug and other problem-solving courts, and jail reduction and other reforms;
  • Conduct and host site visits for a wide array of justice system stakeholders and community partners;
  • Manage the administration of grants by tracking progress and performance and fulfilling deliverables on time;
  • Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with other TTA providers, national experts, and other partners in the field;
  • Develop and deliver presentations at conferences and training events; and
  • Additional relevant tasks, as needed.

Qualifications: The candidate will have either a relevant graduate degree with 4-5 years of experience, or a JD with 2-3 years of experience, or equivalent lived experience related to substance use disorder, the criminal legal system, or direct services provision. Substantive experience with TTA, problem-solving courts, pretrial reforms, and jail reduction, and the ability to work with jurisdictions seeking to enhance community safety and racial justice is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and project management skills are a must. Candidates will have the ability to work with a diverse array of partners, including community members, business owners, police, probation officers, judges, attorneys, court administrators, elected officials, social service providers, school officials, and community-based organizations. National travel may be required.
