Title: Senior Regulatory Tax AccountantLocation: Anchorage, AlaskaDuration: 6+ Month ContractCompensation: $45.00–$50.00/hourWork Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
Skillset / Experience:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Tax Accountant to support state tax compliance and federal royalty reporting for a large organization within the upstream oil and gas industry. This contract position is 100% on-site in Anchorage, Alaska, five days per week.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on oil and gas tax experience, a strong understanding of production and revenue reporting, and experience managing state tax and federal royalty compliance requirements.
Responsibilities:
Prepare, review, and file oil and gas state tax returns and related supporting schedules.
Support Alaska and Wyoming state tax reporting, including severance and ad valorem tax requirements.
Analyze production, revenue, ownership, and operational data to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
Prepare, review, and reconcile federal royalty reporting for federal leases.
Support federal royalty compliance, including audits, inquiries, and regulatory examinations.
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual tax and royalty reconciliations.
Research and interpret state tax regulations and reporting requirements.
Coordinate with accounting, land, regulatory, and operations teams to obtain and validate data required for filings.
Assist with state tax audits, royalty audits, and other regulatory examinations.
Identify potential compliance risks and recommend process improvements.
Maintain supporting documentation for tax and royalty calculations.
Support special projects and ad hoc reporting as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
5+ years of oil and gas industry experience focused on tax, royalty, revenue, or regulatory reporting.
State oil and gas tax experience; Alaska and/or Wyoming experience is highly preferred.
Federal royalty reporting and compliance experience.
Strong understanding of upstream oil and gas accounting principles.
Experience working with production and revenue data.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet regulatory deadlines.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Ability to work 100% on-site in Anchorage, Alaska, five days per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA designation.
Direct Alaska oil and gas tax reporting experience.
Wyoming severance and ad valorem tax experience.
ONRR reporting and federal lease experience.
Knowledge of state and federal oil and gas regulatory requirements.
Tax, royalty, or regulatory audit experience.
Experience with ERP or oil and gas industry systems such as SAP, Oracle, Enertia, BOLO, Excalibur, or similar platforms.
Previous consulting or contract experience.
