Rock Island Auction Company (RIAC), the #1 firearms auction house in the world, is searching for a full-time Senior Shipping Supervisor in Rock Island, IL!This exempt, full-time position is 100% on-site. The salary range is $65,000 - $85,000 based on experience. RIAC standard hours of operations are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. CST with overtime and weekend hours, as needed. Click here to check out RIAC's hiring video!We are seeking a knowledgeable and versatile Senior Shipping Supervisor to join our team. Senior Shipping Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the timely, accurate, and secure transportation, delivery, and distribution of auction items, including antique firearms, bladed weaponry, and military memorabilia. This position is responsible for planning and managing strategies for safe and effective shipping operations while overseeing daily team activities and regulatory compliance.Essential Job Functions
- Lead the shipping team, fostering professionalism, process improvement, and safety compliance.
- Develop departmental goals and translate them into measurable performance objectives for team members.
- Conduct team meetings, manage schedules, and oversee timekeeping for all employees.
- Manage supply inventory including weekly inventory and ordering of supplies for warehouse.
- Provide professional development opportunities, performance reviews, and corrective action when necessary.
- Develop and oversee strategic shipping plans to optimize cost-efficiency, speed, and reliability in item transportation and delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to synchronize shipment schedules and ensure alignment with company goals.
- Analyze logistical workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Manage inventory accuracy and ensure proper verification and release of items before leaving the facility, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
- Coordinate movement of inventory between facilities.
- Coordinate domestic and international shipping logistics, including customs documentation and compliance with import/export regulations.
- Establish contingency plans to address potential disruptions, including weather delays, equipment breakdowns, or regulatory changes.
- Monitor and analyze transportation metrics and KPIs, such as delivery time, cost per shipment, and order accuracy, to identify areas for continuous improvement.
- Partner with vendors to negotiate contracts, ensure service quality, and manage cost control.
- Support warehouse operations by ensuring proper storage, packing, and handling of sensitive or high-value items.
- Assists with unloading trucks upon arrival, as necessary.
- Up to 10% overnight travel.
- Completes additional relevant tasks, duties, and projects, as assigned.
- Leadership that exemplifies strong work ethic and standards of excellence resulting in high productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.
- Knowledge to understand importance of effective communication with ability and skill to demonstrate such for successful cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent team-building skills with professional, positive, and polished demeanor.
- Proven experience successfully managing multiple priorities with ability to swiftly pivot as business needs change or require.
- Ability and willingness to learn, understand, follow, and facilitate on-the-job training for firearm safety, shipping operations, regulatory compliance (i.e., DOT, ATF), and general safety.
- Knowledge and ability to gain full understanding of organization, its operations, and consignor relationships.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills in order to balance competing priorities and successfully meet deadlines.
- Knowledge, skill, and ability to prioritize and deliver customer service excellence with professional conduct and polished demeanor.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information.
- Ability and willingness to take initiative without prompting while using sound judgement and logical reasoning.
- Ability to understand the importance for handling all equipment, tools, and auction items with care, caution, consideration, and respect, and skill to demonstrate such.
- Ability to use and operate vehicles, hand tools, mobile devices, and office machinery such as computer, copier, printer, and scanner; and other relevant equipment.
- Reads, writes, speaks, and understands English fluently.
- Ability to obtain and maintain active FOID card (Illinois residents only).
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, or related field highly preferred.
- Five (5) years’ minimum previous relevant work experience.
- Previous lead, supervisor, or manager experience required.
- Proven work experience proficiently using Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel) required.
