INNOVIM is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Evolution and Development 3 (EED-3) contract.⯠This team provides Earth scientists and others access to data from NASA’s Earth Science missions.
Location: Remote, based out of Annapolis, MD with quarterly travel for PI PlanningClearance: National Agency Clearance with Inquires (NACI) screeningU.S. Citizenship is required
Primary Responsibilities:
The candidate will work in a fast-paced Agile development environment performing operations, design, development, and testing for NASA’s Harmony application, which supports user-requested post-processing and data transformations for the NASA Earthdata missions’ extensive data archives. As a member of the EED-3 team, the software developer will build and support innovative tools allowing scientists and students alike to discover, transform, update, and improve the quality of earth science data in the pursuit of solving a wide range of environmental and socio-economic issues. This includes leading the deployment of product updates, identifying production issues and constructing scalable architecture.
Responsibilities include:
- Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from user story generation, through design, development, automated testing and operational supportâ¯
- Develop new feature ideas to meet the ever-evolving needs of our end-usersâ¯
- Continually help the team grow by sharing new ideas and industry best practicesâ¯
- Suggest improvements to processes and tools to help the team be more efficientâ¯
Required Skills/Experience:
- 6+ years of software engineering experience including writing software using Python, Typescript, and/or Javascript
- Working knowledge and experience with standards-based geospatial data formats (e.g., NetCDF, HDF, Zarr), particularly for remote sensing and satellite datasets
- Experience with and knowledge of geospatial processing libraries and packages (e.g., GDAL, proj, xarray, geopandas, rasterio)
- Demonstrable knowledge of git and CICD processes
- Knowledge of industry best practices for deployment and testing processes for production software
- In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud, including networking, serverless services such as Lambda, Queues, and Topics.
- Ability to work with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong problem-solving, technical, and leadership skills, the ability to take initiative and proactively debug complex issues
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical major such as Computer Science, Engineering, Geoscience or related technical field
Desired Skills/Experience:
- Knowledge of Terraform building AWS infrastructure
- Proficiency with JSON, XML
- Experience using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology
- Experience with full life cycle Software design and development experience on large/complex n-tier client/server applications.
- AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Developer certifications
