Job Description

Let’s face it, a company whose mission is human transformation better have some fresh thinking about the employer/employee relationship.

We do. We can’t cram it all in here, but you’ll start noticing it from the first interview.

Even our candidate experience is different. And when you get an offer from us (and accept it), you get way more than a paycheck. You get a personal BetterUp Coach, a development plan, a trained and coached manager, the most amazing team you’ve ever met (yes, each with their own personal BetterUp Coach), and most importantly, work that matters.

This makes for a remarkably focused and fulfilling work experience. Frankly, it’s not for everyone. But for people with fire in their belly, it’s a game-changing, career-defining, soul-lifting move.

Join us and we promise you the most intense and fulfilling years of your career, doing life-changing work in a fun, inventive, soulful culture.

If that sounds exciting—and the job description below feels like a fit—we really should start talking.

We are a hybrid company with a focus on in-person collaboration when necessary. Employees are expected to be available to work from one of our office hubs at least two days per week, or eight days per month. Our US hub locations include: Austin, TX; New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; and the Washington, DC metro area. Please ensure you can realistically commit to this structure before applying.

We’re looking for a passionate and driven individual as an individual contributor to join our Technical Program Management team in BetterUp’s Research & Development organization. The ideal candidate has a track record of successfully owning high business-impact projects from inception to execution and rollout. You will be responsible for driving multiple product-led programs and projects, as well as managing dependencies and stakeholders from our partner teams. Your ability to handle ambiguity, make informed decisions, and create clarity for teams will be crucial in delivering successful outcomes for our customers. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in program management, exceptional communication and leadership skills, strong project management expertise, and the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams. (Past product or engineering management experience is a plus.).

This role offers a great opportunity for you to support an innovative organization, shape the growing technical program management function, and utilize your talent for efficient program execution. As a team, we will deliver new products that surpass our customers' expectations. If you are passionate about helping people reach their full potential, thrive in a fast-paced startup environment where you can contribute to building the future, and have a love for project management and operational excellence, then this role is perfect for you.

What you'll do:

  • Translate R&D and business strategy into coherent, cross-functional execution — connecting goals, success measures, dependencies, and resource realities into programs that deliver with intention, not just urgency.

  • Enter strategic conversations early as a thought partner, not an execution consumer — bringing full-system context to shape what gets built, why, and when. Anticipate risks, surface dependencies, and create the operating mechanisms that let leaders make informed tradeoffs before they become costly.

  • Navigate technical complexity with confidence — drive discussions on API and platform architectures, integration patterns, and system design tradeoffs, and translate technical constraints into business implications that shape program direction.

  • Build and sustain cross-functional trust through transparent, calibrated communication with stakeholders from ICs to executives — across engineering, product, design, and external partner teams. Turn tension into productive progress through empathy, clarity, and credibility, not authority.

  • Design and evolve scalable frameworks for planning, launch readiness, and program health — maintaining the end-to-end view that no single function owns, and making execution excellence repeatable, not heroic.

  • Leverage AI as a force multiplier: build AI-powered workflows to accelerate delivery, reduce operational overhead, and surface insights across complex programs — while championing responsible adoption and preserving human judgment for strategic decisions.

  • Model the values and behaviors that elevate the whole team — bringing out the best in the people around you and unlocking collective ability to deliver at the highest level.

If you have some or all of the following, please apply:

  • 5+ years of experience in technical program management

  • Strong understanding of APIs, platform architecture, data integrations, and system workflows

  • Experience working with Product, Design, Engineering, Data and GTM teams with a thorough understanding of product and software development processes

  • Proven, illustrated track record of successfully delivering complex programs, projects, or products at scale

  • Comfortable operating in high-stakes environments and strong relationship building experience

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate to diverse audiences—including technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Expert proficiency with Atlassian suite (JIRA, Confluence, JPD, Atlas) required

  • Practical experience with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) to enhance productivity, generate insights, and automate routine work required
