Genova Technologies has an immediate opening for a Senior Technical Program Manager – Software Engineering in Cedar Rapids, IA.

What will you do?

This position involves leading an established software engineering program, overseeing a team of 7 to 15 people delivering software solutions for one or more client accounts. The role blends hands-on technical program management, ownership of scope, schedule, and P&L, with a consultative, customer-facing posture as the primary relationship owner for assigned accounts. The manager will provide leadership, coaching, and professional development for their team while ensuring program delivery, budget health, and client satisfaction. This position requires Daily work to be completed at our Cedar Rapids, IA office, with some potential for Hybrid work.

This role will:

• Lead and manage one or more software engineering teams with a total of 7 to 15 direct or matrixed reports, embedded across one or more client accounts 

• Serve as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for client relationship management, consulting on priorities, roadmaps, and tactical and strategic decisions 

• Own full program P&L: develop and manage budget, track spend against forecast, and report on margin and profitability 

• Manage project scope, schedule, and risk across concurrent workstreams; proactively escalate and mitigate as needed 

• Act as part-time Product Owner within Scrum teams as needed, translating client needs into actionable work for the team 

• Write and maintain user stories and backlog to guide development activities 

• Ensure all project documentation is complete, accurate, and meets contractual requirements 

• Support planning, scheduling, and execution of software development activities across all assigned accounts 

• Maintain and grow existing client relationships, with a focus on continuity and expanding the scope of engagement where appropriate 

• Monitor spend against budget and remaining scope against available budget; deliver regular budget and status reports to clients 

• Prepare and deliver a monthly executive summary to internal leadership assessing overall program and portfolio health 

• Provide career guidance and support the personal and professional growth of direct reports.

What do you need?

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

• 7+ years of post-baccalaureate experience in a technical or technology-adjacent field, with demonstrated technical curiosity and the ability to understand, engage with, and constructively challenge software engineering teams

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams of 7 to 15 people, including distributed or client-embedded staff 

• Demonstrated ability to act as a consultative, customer-facing partner, building trust and credibility with client stakeholders at multiple levels 

• Experience owning full program P&L, including budget development, cost tracking, and margin/profitability reporting 

• Proven ability to manage project scope, schedule, and delivery risk across concurrent workstreams 

• Proven ability to write and manage a product backlog, including user stories 

• Experience producing executive-level status reports and program health summaries for internal and client leadership 

• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal team leadership, executive reporting, and consultative client interaction 

• Demonstrated ability to manage, coach, and develop employees in a distributed, client-embedded model

• Manage technical and program risks and escalate issues as appropriate to internal leadership 

• Participate in and support interviews and onboarding of additional team members

• Represent Genova Technologies professionally in all client and internal interactions, adhering to company policies, standards, and values.

Skills we consider a plus include:

• Prior experience managing a diverse portfolio of clients or programs across multiple industries simultaneously 

• Demonstrated ability to maintain and expand existing client relationships, including identifying opportunities to grow scope of engagement 

• Experience transitioning into a role with an active handoff period, including building trust with clients and teams during a leadership change 

• Familiarity with embedded, web, and mobile application development 

• Experience working in a Scrum environment as a Product Owner or Scrum Master 

• Prior experience in a consulting firm; Big 4, Booz Allen, IBM, Accenture

• Familiarity with backlog and program management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar platforms 

• PMP, PgMP, or equivalent program management certification.
