Job Description

Itron is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water. We create a more resourceful world to protect essential resources for today and tomorrow. Join us.

At Itron, we're building the connected, sustainable utilities, cities, and communities of tomorrow. Our Distributed Intelligence (DI) solutions bring analytics and action closer to the grid-helping utilities operate more efficiently, reliably, and intelligently.

We're looking for a Senior Scrum Master / Technical Program Manager (SM/TPM) to support Agile engineering teams delivering DI applications in a SAFe environment. In this role, you'll act as a servant leader, coach, and facilitator, empowering teams to deliver high‑quality, customer‑centric solutions while continuously improving flow, predictability, and collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a customer‑centric servant leader for one or more Agile teams, fostering self‑organization, accountability, and continuous improvement

  • Coach engineers, Product Owners, and stakeholders on Scrum, SAFe, and Lean‑Agile principles to drive healthy, high‑performing teams

  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including Daily Stand‑ups, Iteration Planning, Reviews/Demos, Retrospectives, and Backlog Refinement, ensuring they are purposeful, time‑boxed, and outcome‑driven

  • Actively support Program Increment (PI) Planning and ART‑level events, enabling alignment and predictable delivery across teams

  • Partner closely with Product Owners to maintain clear, prioritized, and healthy backlogs aligned to customer and business outcomes

  • Drive delivery discipline by ensuring work items are properly sized, estimated, updated, and closed according to team standards

  • Use Azure DevOps metrics and queries to monitor backlog health, sprint execution, flow, and aging work items

  • Identify, escalate, and help remove team‑level and cross‑team impediments to improve flow and protect team focus

  • Facilitate dependency management and cross‑team collaboration within the ART to support reliable delivery

  • Leverage delivery metrics (velocity, throughput, cycle time) to support forecasting, transparency, and data‑driven continuous improvement

  • Lead impactful retrospectives that result in measurable improvements and innovative ways of working

  • Collaborate with Scrum Masters, TPMs, Product Owners, RTEs, and stakeholders to ensure alignment across the program

  • Model collaborative, agile leadership behaviors and help strengthen Agile adoption across the organization

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or similar Agile delivery role supporting multi‑phase software programs

  • Strong, hands‑on experience with Scrum and SAFe in an enterprise environment

  • Proven ability to facilitate Agile ceremonies and PI Planning events with confidence and clarity

  • Demonstrated success coaching teams and leaders toward higher levels of Agile maturity

  • Experience using Azure DevOps (or similar tools) for backlog management, delivery tracking, and reporting

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and conflict‑resolution skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Process Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • SAFe certification (SSM, SPC) or equivalent Agile certification

  • Experience supporting delivery across multiple teams or ARTs

  • Background in technical or software delivery environments

  • Strong experience using metrics to drive accountable delivery and continuous improvement

  • Experience delivering Utilities & Energy solutions, ideally including AMI (Automated Metering Infrastructure) or grid‑edge
