Job Description

Must be available for duty assignment at assigned Valley Health facility. This position may be asked to work at other VH facilities temporarily to support the operations of the department. This position assists the shift LT. with supervising a shift of Public Safety Officers including their scheduling, payroll, assignments, training, annual and other types of evaluations, progress reports and behavior while on duty. Fills in as the shift leader in the absence of the shift Lt. Helps the Shift LT. complete evaluations of corporals and officers. This is a working position although some paperwork is required the majority of the work is physical in nature and functions in a similar capacity as a Public Safety Officer with respect to patrolling and responding to routine service and emergency responses. The position is responsible for ensuring the daily operations of the Public Safety shift set by the LT. to pertain to the support of the overall hospital operations on an as needed basis (When Lieutenant is not on duty). This position may be required to work alternate shifts to support the operations of the department and hospital. This position oversees and reviews investigations conducted by the shift officers before forwarding them to the manager or Director. This position works holidays and weekends. This position may be temporarily reassigned to another facility to support the operations of the department and VH. This position will be the primary assigned individual to orient new officers and to validate competencies.EducationHigh School Diploma or GED required College degree preferredExperienceOne year of healthcare Public Safety, supervisory of team members or prior advanced military experience at corporal level or above One years of healthcare Public Safety experience or three years of Public Safety or law enforcement or military experience One years prior supervisory experience with the ability to motivate a team Prior law enforcement preferred Prior military preferredCertification & LicensuresValid driver's license required American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation required International Association for Healthcare Public Safety and Safety Supervisor level within 1 year required ASP baton, Handcuff, OC Foam Spray and aggression management training within 90 days required May be required to obtain instructor certification in aggression management, ASP baton, Handcuff OC Foam SprayQualificationsKnowledge of Public Safety systems, procedures, enforcement codes preferred. Competent to successfully interact with patients according to their special needs which may apply based on the age of the patient served. Successful completion of a 90-day training period required.
